After 1 month of the indefensible GHF system, which has been both woefully inadequate & characterized by numerous mass shootings of starving civilians seeking aid, ….. Israel is reportedly reverting to blocking all aid while reassessing its plan. Appalling. www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_ent...

Presidents of both parties have muddied the water on unilateral presidential military action, but an attack on a sovereign nation with barely even a pretext of a lawful reason, no congressional involvement or even interest, and no UN involvement would be a new low for “checks and balances.”

A surefire way to get a bully to hit is to call him a chicken.

I sound more elegant in French (thanks to the Le Monde translator!). www.lemonde.fr/pixels/artic...

Imagine if after a terrorist attack, the headlines read, "Some Americans fear attack while getting aid" and no summary headline for those days says "Some Americans killed while trying to eat" Also "getting aid" is a heck of a euphemism for "trying not to starve" -- www.nytimes.com/column/the-h...

A US attack on Iran would not only violate Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, but by virtue of the Take Care Clause, it would also be unlawful as a matter of US domestic law. publications.lawschool.cornell.edu/lawreview/20...

The students are winning.

That official reversal was fast! Miller is an extremist who doesn't mind hurting the country as it is. Citizens have to let the White House know that Miller has to go & the deportations have to stop. Miller is in charge of immigration policies, speeches & is overriding the President wapo.st/43PPwus

WSJ comes out for 500% tariffs against China and India, unless they stop buying oil from Russia. Perhaps WSJ might also suggest 500% tariffs on EU for continuing to buy gas from Russia. www.wsj.com/opinion/iran...

In 2012, Trump tweeted that Obama would launch a strike on Iran to distract from and, perhaps reverse, poor polling. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

What would we say if China or Iran or Russia ordered everyone in a foreign city currently undergoing bombing to evacuate?

Trump just warned 10 million people who live in Tehran to evacuate. Our flagrant abuse of international law will haunt us. www.dw.com/en/trump-tel....

I won't name the car rental company but a European car rental company erroneously charged me for damage to the car, only reversing their claim when I finally reached someone in the damage department to complain about it. Can you identify the alleged damage?

Important for American privacy campaigners to consider, as political parties' use of data often not directly covered by U.S. state privacy law and some draft federal statutes.

Trump and Lutnick insisted on a permanent golden share in US Steel, post-acquisition by Nippon Steel. Nippon Steel sought to negotiate a temporary one that expired at the end of the Trump Administration. Another blow to the free market. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/15/u...

If another world leader had threatened, in the middle of a bombing campaign, that a government "must make a deal, before there is nothing left" -- both scholars and the U.S. government would have labeled it a threat of genocide.

If this is how this administration responds to a Senator with a question, you can only imagine what they're doing to farmworkers, to cooks, and to day laborers throughout California and across the country. We will hold this administration accountable.

Glad to see the Trump Administration protecting car washing jobs from foreign competition. 🙄https://www.washingtonpost.com/immigration/interactive/2025/la-ice-raid-car-wash/?itid=hp-top-table-main_p001_f008

Harvard is #2 in the 2025 Nature research output index (and the only American institution in the top 10), but the Trump Administration will help ensure that more Chinese institutions beat it. nature.com/nature-index...

Or if, at any point in his last 2 years, Joe Biden had ordered the TX National Guard into Houston over Greg Abbott's vociferous objection, under a law requiring him to go "through the governor"? Articles would have been drawn up the same day.

Senator Padilla was driven violently to his knees–as if made to kneel before the authority of the executive–because the administration called his questions “disrespectful”. This should offend not just the other 99 Senators. It should offend the conscience of this country.

Department of Homeland Security claims that Sen. Padilla "lunged" at Sec'y Noem. According to Rolling Stone, "Video clearly shows Padilla was nowhere close enough to Noem to 'lunge' at her." Reminder of importance of videos and unreliability of authorities. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

Last month, the NY Times interviewed a member of an ambulance crew, who said his primary job was to rescue children. This month, he was killed, alongside the photographer who had taken photos of him last month and others in his crew. www.nytimes.com/video/world/...

We feed you. They hunt us.

We are out there flouting our existing trade agreements, and the EU is smartly entering into new ones.

Fascinating development: Danish Minister of Digitalization promises to phase out Microsoft from her ministry. (Add other reports of Copenhagen and Aarhus doing same.) Part of a trend I write about in The National Security Internet. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....

When Trump faced a news cycle dominated by Pete Hegseth's chat fiasco (which would have normally resulted in firing the Sec'y of Defense), he launched ruinous tariffs on "Liberation Day," drawing our attention elsewhere and arguing he was protecting America from a national security emergency. 1/.

Besides the obvious outrage and lack of justification, how much is this going to cost the government--and the California National Guard members themselves, in terms of the sacrifice to their work and family?

there is no rebellion. there is no danger of rebellion. i see this as unlawful, where the facts on the ground do not justify invocation of this law. it’s an assault on the right to protest and american democratic order. time for congress to step in and restrain this lawlessness.

"When she gave birth to Shadia this April, there was so little to eat that Ms. al-Arqan, 25, had almost no milk to give. Now she holds Shadia at her breast just to calm her down, Mr. Barda said, knowing that nothing is likely to come." www.nytimes.com/2025/06/07/w...

WSJ reports on decades-long Pentagon disinformation campaign to propagate UFO myths "based on interviews with two dozen current and former U.S. officials, scientists and military contractors involved in the inquiry, as well as thousands of pages of documents, recordings, emails and text messages."

Amazing #AGT -- a rock band from Sikkim youtu.be/uBnTrlE5w1w?...

Politico calls this "xenophobic": Congresswoman troubled by "Muslim" man leading Congressional prayer (he was actually Sikh). Critics call it "racist." "Mary Miller says she’s ‘deeply troubled’ by Sikh man leading House floor prayer in deleted xenophobic post" www.politico.com/live-updates...

I suggested this to the @nytimes.com at time of the last TikTok extension. Groundhog Day has now arrived. The "national security emergency" continues, and is kicked down the road. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/07/t...

Wonderful riposte by Rep. Dean: "We cannot build bananas in America"

Since 2024, the Trump Organization has expanded dramatically overseas--with India the leading destination. Great @wsj reporting. www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

In the Meta investigation under the DSA, does the "Visibility of political content" prong of the inquiry mean that Meta is potentially demoting political content *too much*?? Like, this is about politicians being mad that their posts aren't reaching enough people? ec.europa.eu/commission/p...

Yet another deficit in the Bell argument is that it assumes that foreign students at elite institutions hail from wealthy families. First, that is not necessarily true, at least in my experience at Harvard College. 1/
