Arcana is a TTRPG focused on spellcraft where players develop custom-made spells to solve fascinating problems and complete quests that will change the field of Spellcraft forever after!
Perfect for players who enjoy thought experiments, creative thinking, and WIZARDRY!

This 1000%
My game has character sheets and spell templates to use, but encourages players to write out their custom made spells in a blank journal because having a real spellbook with spells that you've actually cast in game is just immensely cool

Yeah! And a middle that doesn't go as planned, and a beginning too lol.
It's fun though, it feels very organic. I'm working on a companion game that basically turns any typical ttrpg into solo journaling game. The result reads more like a diary than a structured narrative but it's a lot of fun ^__^

Lol I had the realization in reverse when playing a solo rpg.
I was like...
HEY... this is just creative writing with extra steps!

Yeah, you'd need a certain kind of group for it, but the revenge payoff at the end of the final session would be worth alllllllll the pain lol

You think you'll be resurrected, but in truth you're selected to become part of their elite undead army, THEN the campaign begins!

More or less all of the above! The world of Scott Pilgrim is basically a video game so I think I'd lean heavily into that as much as I could! There's so much you can do to create a unique RPG my taking inspiration from other mediums.

I'd love to create a Scott Pilgrim TTRPG, an official one would be phenomenal❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥

I love a 4-6 hour sesh, don't get me wrong, but as an adult it's basically a barrier to entry! I was once in a group that played 2 hour sessions. It was better than nothing but they just didn't satisfy the same way 3-4 hours would

The big downside of ttrpgs is the sheer amount of time it takes to play :/

🔥 sounds dope af! I think when if you describe the game as tactical, you just HAVE to play with a real objective battlefield.
Are you guys doing open playtests???

Tell me about the game! I feel that when a game is designed for miniatures or a grid, it's challenging to keep the spirit of the game alive without those things

I find the forethought, creativity, and attention to detail in this piece perpetually amazing.

One I've really enjoyed is VOID, where you play as a radio DJ creating playlists and talking to "callers"
You can record it too if you want to have something to keep at the end of the game and it's pretty simple to get into!

In Arcana, magic is a skill you truly develop in-game. You'll start with basic spell components and expand further on what interests you. As you experiment and explore, your spellbook grows into something totally unique to your character's journey!

Thanks so much! Arcana is a pretty niche RPG, but based on your criticism of the ATLA RPG you might really appreciate the freedom of our game!
We just fired up the Discord if you want to join a playest in the near future! discord.gg/HzAP7B6HTV (open invite, feel free to share around!)

🤣 This gives me so much confidence as a designer lol
it's like a spinoff of schadenfreude: confidence derived from a large company's mistakes.
