The polycrisis is real—and expanding, and exploding. And so are the openings for a radically different political culture, one centered on solidarity. The cliche rings true—they have money, we have people.

impossible to know if anyone remembers this but "actually assassinated" seems pretty different than "almost assassinated," even if the action is basically the same

sorry for the bad picture but worth noting that the building does not feel as tall as it is from the street level! podiums kinda work
comment in response to post
sure but you quoted someone complaining that ugly, modernist, anti-human scale buildings ruined la. human scale happens at the street level
comment in response to post
to be fair, the street level of many buildings in la is far far worse than those in manhattan

sure, but it would be good to counterweight those things, along with half-remembered anecdotes from 40/50 years ago, with actual data and accurate narratives about urban environments today

ba/bs's might also not see themselves in competition with phds since many don't want to become academics
comment in response to post
or see the phd as a "super" version of the credential they don't have. is the question why ba/bs don't resent phds more than those without do? that has to do with socialization
comment in response to post
the dif btwn having a degree and not is more salient than between having a ba/bs and a phd (at least from the lower side of the ladder) for various reasons. it is easier to get a ba/bs than a phd from a hs diploma. no degree resents degreeholders in general and don't make the finer distinction
comment in response to post
bachelor's degree holders spend 4 years being quite close to phds that those without them don't. hard not to absorb at least some of the social practices or at least an understanding of what phds do and why it's valuable

wish this interviewer had pushed a little on the price point... all this talk about efficiency and lowering costs and the asking rent is double that of area comps?
