Hm. I misread, they do have an Albany office, but both Friend of the Court volunteer addresses are in NYC (sharing this in case another Capital District local gets confused). Going to email them and see if they have any Albany-area volunteer opportunities.

Omg, thank you so much. 🙌🏼 They alternate between their NYC and Albany offices, so I can actually volunteer because the latter is a 30 minute drive from me. I desperately need to do something to help, but I have limited resources.

His brother frames him as being scared. NOT excusing his behavior, but of course he is, the voices he listens to tell him constantly that he's in danger. When he's a (likely) straight white male US citizen, he couldn't be more protected. What exactly is he afraid of? Vapor.

If she's on her way out, I hope the face of that puppy she murdered flashes before her eyes as she slips away into darkness.

I can name several instances where Democrats behaved badly and it was other Democrats that wanted them out. Cuomo turned out to be an absolute POS, so we acknowledge that. This Boelter turd was religious and conservative. Very much so. Is it that hard to acknowledge?

Right after the MN lawmakers assassination, we all know that the rhetoric was that the culprit was a liberal. It was pushed aggressively. Then, as soon as it's revealed he's the opposite, they refuse to accept this. And this is a common refrain from conservatives. No accountability.

(And if you reply to any post in this thread with anything that even sniffs of "not all men," you'll be blocked and removed from my life. If you don't act like this, then I am not talking about you.)

I'm not a piece of shit creeper, so I can't understand his thought process. I want to apply logic and I can't. I can understand logically his attraction to her because she's beautiful and vibrant. Beyond that, no logic applies. Just sickness.

We've known this man since 2007. He visits my grandparents at least once a week. He's definitely made me feel uncomfortable before with too-long hugs (etc), but nothing as bad as what my sister just experienced. If she gave me the go-ahead, I would show up at his house and throat-punch him.

He and Barstool are one of my immediate and permanent red flags. Back on Xitter, if someone I followed RTed them into my TL, it was an automatic unfollow.

I never saw it. It looked so goofy when it first came out, I avoided it in the theater. Then years later I have heard from multiple places that it was really a gem in the guise of a popcorn flick (nothing wrong with popcorn flick tbh). I really should check it out.

This is absolutely sick. Maybe they should watch the footage themselves and start answering why they ignored the warning a year prior and were so slow to react to help Israelis on that day, it makes the cops in Uvalde look like heroes. They hung their people out to DIE.

Unless you're from American Samoa. And considering they have the highest rate of enlistment of any state or territory, that is extremely gross.

I have always enjoyed a good dose of schadenfreude. Usually with sports, where it's essentially harmless. But seeing cruel people suffer? It's my new favorite sport. Cheering on the vulnerable to be harmed is MAGA's favorite pastime. They say we're too soft, so I am just joining in on the fun. 🤷🏻‍♀️

What alternate shithole reality is this? Unions make you white collar?

They didn't and they've been officially cleared for over 15 years, with DNA evidence.

I read "It" when I was 11. It affected the way I positioned my body near any drains, toilets, and sewers for months after. I couldn't watch the miniseries or either of the films. That trauma is in my soul lol.

To hell with both of them.

CNN has been an abomination for a few years now and they keep getting worse. Any time my grandfather occasionally turns it on, within 30 seconds, I'm ready to leave the room or wrestle the remote away from him. He thankfully rarely tries them any longer.

That's famous, white male audacity for you, because for most of us...yikes.

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK. 5??? That reeks of intentionally avoidant, if not straight up intentional.

I felt for Robby in that scene even more because after the day he had, to have to deal with that mom must have been testing the very fiber of his existence lol. I appreciated so, so much about the show and how it advocated for compassion and decency to med staff *and* patients.

I always use the example of the Ramseys after their daughter was murdered. They were very wealthy—and white—and the police absolutely railroaded them. If they couldn't get a fair shake, no one can.

I follow a couple of people that still write there and sometimes I wonder why they do. And if they are in the position to write elsewhere, would they do it? Is it even possible to create change from within an organization hellbent on sowing discord?

I stopped paying for the NYT years ago, they have long surpassed my tolerance for BS. But, I wonder if they offered me a job, if I could say no on principle, because I am not in a financial position to do so. Like trying to avoid shopping at certain places when I don't have financial flexibility.

The headline and sub-headline wasn't written by the author and it's behind a paywall. But the author knows he doesn't have control over this, so why contribute there? Work options aren't overflowing. I don't have the answer, I just think it's an important discussion that was created from this mess.
comment in response to post
What's interesting to me is the concept that the NYT has become a bigoted bootlicker, but should that mean writers trying to get their messages and pay their bills, actively avoid or try to push back from within? I've seen it argued both ways.

I'm not a Democrat, but neither is she (in different directions, of course). I'm so done with her ass. "Alpha energy," really? Ditching wokeness? She's essentially a Reagan-era Republican. She's only a Democrat now because the current Republican party are literal fascists.

From my perspective, American patriotism is rooted in war, money, sports, and cruelty. And that's about it. We don't really care about our neighbor and maybe not even our family. We're willing to see both suffer if it satisfies some need within us—whether it's greed or schadenfreude.
comment in response to post
Canadians tend to be less obnoxious about their patriotism but still show up in situations like this. Much more action compared to our tendency to mouth off, then do jack shit. The average American doesn't even understand what American-made even means.
comment in response to post
I'm not an expert on Canada, but I did live there for a few years. And some liberal Americans often romanticize it and think it doesn't have issues or racism or misogyny, etc. But for all our bluster about patriotism, we really aren't when it comes to helping others.

Zavarise described not just a preference for Canadian-made goods but an active avoidance of US ones. And the preference isn't about saving money — quite the opposite: "Everyone I know is shopping local despite how expensive it is," she added. www.businessinsider.com/canadian-sto...

What's this now? I thought we were supposed to dislike sex because we aren't capable of enjoying it. The female orgasm either doesn't exist or if it does, it turns us into men. Plus we have supernatural powers that help us prevent pregnancy from a 🍇. Now we have control over if men ejaculate?

I understand and appreciate the sentiment behind why Glavine tried to help, but beyond that it's mind-numbingly dumb. Also, when can we punt Bettman into the sun?
