My thing was overcharacterizing via eyes. "Her eyes narrowed to pale green slits," "His large eyes swam with tears," "Their brittle gazes got up to take advantage of the buy-one-get-one-free sale at Shoprite," etc. etc. But I read it years later, and I'm not mad. One is allowed to learn and grow.
