To be honest, I think he just wants to draw attention and divert it from other discussions ( like the tariffs). I don’t think he’s seriously planning to go through with this. It would damage his image and reputation which is what he loves most.

That’s what Putin thought about Ukraine as well. Think about the consequences -risk war with NATO -risk losing international position -risk long-time close ally EU getting closer to China -risk US getting a new democratic state. None of these are good for Trump if he wants a republican reelection.
