New op-ed out in the Albuquerque Journal. I share about the importance of federal substance use and addiction funding for families like mine. www.abqjournal.com/opinion/arti... and in case you hit a paywall: unmm-my.sharepoint.com/:b:/g/person...

BBC: Why don't women use ChatGPT? Woman: I tried it and it just barfed out useless garbage BBC: Women don't use ChatGPT because it's too difficult for their pretty little heads

I really dislike the trend on this site where people mock Hegseth for having a drinking problem. It is stigmatizing. We can be scornful of fascists without also stigmatizing problems that lots of people struggle with. We should mock him for being an incompetent bootlicker. Isn't that enough?

Society for Research in Psychopathology folks, pls submit nominations for the Early Career Award by April 30th! No better time to do all we can to elevate our EC colleagues and recognize their research contributions

‼️ New paper @ Child Development discussing why it is inappropriate to use traditional common factor models to model adverse childhood experienced (ACEs) and other stressor inventories ‼️ Read full (brief) paper at srcd.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.... @srcdorg.bsky.social #PsychSciSky 1/9

Here's my hot take of the day. Unless you're doing research on an actual intervention, your paper does not need a clinical implication section They suck (including mine) and it undermines the value of basic science. You're buying into the idea that research isn't valuable unless it's applied.

One of our undergraduate students in philosophy at Columbia, Mohsen Mahdawi, has been arrested by ICE at an immigration appointment (that he thought was for his citizenship application) in Vermont. I am standing up to say: hands off our students.

man every time I deposit a manuscript in NIHMS for eventual open access via PubMed Central, I'm floored by how well it all works. it's wild that people pay piles of grant money to for-profit publishers rather than relying on this already-excellent, govt-funded system

Columbia’s reward for bending over backward to comply is *checks notes* $700 million in more funding freezes. www.science.org/content/arti...

Just to recap: Multiple sieg heils at the inauguration and CPAC SecDef with “88” and Jerusalem Cross tattoos Health Sec said “COVID was engineered to spare the Jews” and met with literal German Nazis FBI Director appeared 6x on a podcast that advocates for a “final solution” for America’s Jews

This is the literal destruction of knowledge. Mississippi libraries are being ordered to remove academic research on race and gender from library databases. mississippitoday.org/2025/04/08/m...

Tim Walz: "You you claim to love freedom but want to restrict certain groups, you don’t love freedom. You love privilege." 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 #MomSky

I'm not going to stop saying this. We need to stop calling it "deporting." It may not always be fair or humane, but deportation has a process. And it means you're sent back to where you came from. These people are being trafficked and sold to slave prisons. Not deported.

Trump is an absolute evil sack of shit who is decimating higher education in this country. If you’ve said out loud that you’re grateful that your work isn’t being targeted by the current administration, super cringe, and maybe also don’t hold your breath.

Trump and Musk are trying to block all NIH spending. Trump and Musk are trying to block all NIH spending. (Legal aside: so they’re admitting that regulations matter. That’s good.)

With the end of the semester approaching, a month of my lab meetings are dedicated to practice talks. What do you think makes for a good talk? What advice do you give folks?

WASHINGTON (AP) — Cory Booker breaks the record for longest Senate speech, previously held by segregationist Strom Thurmond.

New plan is apparently fuck around. Don’t find out.

Things that are not cool to do: kidnap someone, throw them into an unmarked van, and put them in prison in a different state because they wrote an op-ed that you didn't like.

Unidentified men grabbing someone off the street and putting her in a car because she wrote an op-Ed. This as flatly authoritarian as anything we’ve seen in this country in a very long time.

In Denver for the @hitop-system.bsky.social meeting. I’m joining @craiganthonyrs.bsky.social at the rooftop pool (only brought sweaters). Come say hi if you’re willing to tolerate my current 20/10 levels of nihilism!!! Life is great!

Finally some coverage of NIH grant cancelations that asks lawyers, on the record, "isn't this illegal?" (the answer is "yes") www.bostonglobe.com/2025/03/26/m...

I need to get off this timeline.
