Small but perfectly formed. Male (pic 1) and female (pic 2) Small Skipper #Butterflies (Thymelicus sylvestris) photographed in the meadows at Brandon Marsh on Friday. Tiny—and tawny—jewels of the grasslands. #SmallWonders #Nature #Wildlife #Insects #NaturePhotography #MacroPhotography #UKWildlife 🌿

A juvenile Long-tailed Tit, at Upton Warren last month. The youngster already has the trademark long tail and general cuteness of this species; in time the plumage will change to that sported by adults. #Plumescrolling #Birds #UKBirding #Nature #NaturePhotography #UKWildlife 🌿

A male Beautiful Demoiselle (Calopterix virgo). At 45mm long, this is one of the UK’s two largest Damselfly species, and with its metallic body colour it is also a striking one that lives up to its name. #SmallWonders #Nature #Wildlife #Insects #NaturePhotography #MacroPhotography #UKWildlife 🌿

They are amazing creatures. Maybe this species doesn't trigger the moth phobia due to it being day-flying and looking like it knows where it's going, rather than a night-flyer bumbling about in artificial light and looking like it might crash into you?

Thanks Nick – my pleasure!

As it’s #SuperSeabirdSunday here’s another #Puffin from last Sunday’s #Skomer trip. This one is demonstrating how these #birds can fly despite having wings that don’t look big enough: jetpacks. Puffin-sized, invisible jetpacks. The secret is out. 😉 #Plumescrolling #UKBirding #Nature #UKWildlife 🌿

Another #Butterfly from Friday’s visit to the meadows at Brandon Marsh: a #Comma, who was active along the border between the meadow and adjacent woodland. #SmallWonders #Nature #Wildlife #Insects #NaturePhotography #MacroPhotography #UKWildlife 🌿

A grounded Manx Shearwater who either misjudged their landing, or tried returning to Skomer Island during daylight hours and was attacked by Gulls. Rob and I took photos, marked the spot, and reported the bird to the island’s volunteer staff. #Plumescrolling #Birds #Nature #UKWildlife 🌿

My brother @robcamera.bsky.social is keen to see and photograph Marbled White #Butterflies so today I visited @warwickshirewt.bsky.social Brandon Marsh to see if there were any about. Mission accomplished! #SmallWonders #Nature #Wildlife #Insects #NaturePhotography #UKWildlife 🌿

A windswept #Wren having a bad hair—oops, I mean feather—day at Martin’s Haven in #Pembrokeshire on Sunday. #Plumescrolling #Birds #UKBirding #Nature #NaturePhotography #WildlifePhotography #UKWildlife 🌿

The look of love. 🥰 A pair of Puffins on Skomer Island gazing into each other's eyes.* #Plumescrolling #Birds #Nature #WildlifePhotography #UKWildlife 🌿 * Or engaged in a staring contest and waiting to see who will blink first. 😉

Fabulous! I saw one when I was there on Sunday, but he or she was too far away for me to get a decent photo.

Yes, my first thought was Red-legged Partridge. Definitely has those markings.

Hopping about amongst the Puffins at The Wick on Skomer Island on Sunday was another bird: a female Northern Wheatear (Oenanthe oenanthe). The name we use for this white-rumped Summer visitor is derived from the Old English words for ‘white’ and ‘arse’! #Plumescrolling #Birds #Nature #UKWildlife 🌿

After my visit to Skomer Island yesterday with my brother Rob, I may have just one or two #Puffin pics to share with you. In the same way that this Puffin may have just one or two Sand Eels for the hungry young Puffling waiting in a nearby burrow... 😉 😃 #Plumescrolling #Birds #Nature #UKWildlife 🌿

Thank you! This image really caught my eye when I reviewed my photos – quite a few more eyes seem to have been drawn to it since I shared it. 🙂

Pretty in (Sea) Pink. Back to my pics from RSPB South Stack, #Anglesey, taken in June 2024, to continue #Bloomscrolling with some Sea Pink, or Thrift (Armeria maritima). This species flowers mainly from April to July, and is found all around the UK coast. #Wildflowers #Nature #UKWildlife 🌿

I gather than quite a few of those who mocked or otherwise denigrated Brendan and the creature’s creators got blocked by the account of said creators. They presumably gave up blocking when they realised it would be a full-time job, and deleted Brendan’s likeness (not that he got many Likes) instead.

Well, Brendan the AI tour guide for visitors to Dublin who like horror films and/or have little regard for their own safety, has vanished from Bluesky. For anyone who has only seen my post about him after the deletion of the post I quoted, here he is, complete with neck nuts. *shudders*

I proper groaned at that. Well done! 👍🏻

A Brown Hawker #Dragonfly (Aeshna grandis) perched on a Nettle stem, at Upton Warren last month. Body: mostly brown. Wings: brown tinged. Habits: hawks for insect prey. Whoever named this species absolutely nailed it. 😉 #SmallWonders #Nature #Wildlife #Insects #NaturePhotography #UKWildlife 🌿

You’re going for the full sett then?

No prizes for guessing who just read that as “There should be badgers for genealogists”! 🧬🦡

A Reed Warbler at RSPB Middleton Lakes last month, close to where I watched a singing Sedge Warbler earlier the same day. Both birds, uncharacteristically, perched where I could photograph them—although this one mostly kept his head behind that reed stem! #Plumescrolling #Birds #Nature #UKWildlife 🌿

I photographed these last month, for the the first time in quite a while, and I too had forgotten how small they are!

They are definitely a bit special!
