Respectfully, this reporting is misleading. The PIs have not been reinstated. Yes, they’ve been asked to return to work. As have others. The RIF gave a 60 days notice before termination (June 2). And the email you quote says the RIFs have not been rescinded, only that NIH leadership…

Not sure that Trump understands the US can't do great science with only ideological conservatives and tech bros. There's just not enough talent.
That's one reason why the NIH diversity push was so important: it expanded the talent pool to look like America.

I agree—it’s an ongoing question and problem. Currently these are the avenues we can pursue so we are. History shows that pressure and fear can shape politicians behaviors just as it does ours, though. I’m trying to be hopeful and realistic!

It’s frustrating, but this stuff does matter based on the # of people who email about an issue. You can also ask to set up a meeting with a legislative aide if it feels more impactful. What you are doing helps though!!

Indeed! I’d add to this—specifically be calling your republicans! For better or worse the dems I have talked to say there’s not much they can do bc they lack the majority.
