I have drafted a template letter which you can send to the Women and Equalities Select Committee and the Joint Committee on Human Rights, concerning the proposed appointment of Dr Mary-Ann Stephenson as the new head of the EHRC. Please share widely. docs.google.com/document/d/1...

once again feeling exhausted and hopeless in my opportunities or lack thereof as a nonbinary athlete

Honestly this review really sums up the movie pretty well, but I would probably liken it more to an "autism" version of "The Fast and the Furious" movies. It just decides that things don't have to make sense, and you also decide watching it "Oh, I guess they don't have to!"

Incredible lede on this

wrote about the Accountant 2, Rain Man, and why Hollywood's treatment of autism is generally awful. Also! I think about Kimi as a (good!) autism film. www.motley-bloom.com/articles/wha...

"also except for one scene it completely forgets that he's an accountant" -This is a highly underrated comment Lol. So true!

As someone with a (probably) neurotypical brother I lost touch with for a while, the part in Accountant 2 where Bernthal is hooting and hollering from the sidelines as Affleck successfully dances with a hot woman got me in ways I wasn't expecting.

I'm honestly tired of how every time a cis person clumsily pushes back against transphobia by swallowing their own foot and demonstrating that they have implicitly accepted the right-wing framing and erosion of trans issues in the mainstream, people freak out and act like pointing this out is death.

Gotta say, when the studies dropped showing Covid causes erectile dysfunction… I thought people would pay attention. When they said you should avoid Covid for months before trying to conceive? Same. Now we see the virus persists in semen… will anyone care?

Pure fucking evil

Really hate the constant conflation between the administration's actions and mental illness, often specifically with words to put down those struggling with mental health. No, these actions are not "deranged" or "psychotic." They are cold, dangerous, and very intentional.

I'm not done watching "The Accountant 2" movie but my favorite part so far is bribing a doctor to violate all HIPPA laws because then he can get a job at a top institute. 😂 Ah yes, of course that's how science works! /s

This seems bad. apnews.com/article/nort...

"It’s important to know that COVID can hang in the air like smoke, for hours. You can catch COVID from someone who has already left a room if it hasn’t been well ventilated."

“There are no rewards for doing what’s right. In fact, quite the opposite. The problematic thing happens and I’m like ‘well, I guess we’re getting sacked again.’”

As NB.1.8.1 spreads, there’s only one thing spreading faster: misinformation. Here, I run down 5 of the most common errors I see circulating about COVID and encourage people to integrate airborne disease mitigation into their lives holistically. www.thegauntlet.news/p/common-mis...

Former F1 racing world champion Keke Rosberg has said he is "struggling severely" as he battles symptoms of long-COVID. www.gpblog.com/en/news/f1-l...

Another reason I was continually yelling at the TV during this episode -

Many folks have shared the scene where Nathan Fielder takes the Reading the Mind in the Eyes Test. He's told it's the 'gold standard' for assessing autism. It's a funny bit, but the RMET is not a credible assessment tool & Simon Baron-Cohen has largely walked back the assumptions it was based on.

In finally admitting that they're trying to take away our rights, they're also admitting that we have exercised these rights for years -decades- and there hasn't ever, ever been an issue with it

NPR once did a fantastic podcast series about transgender youth called "All The Only Ones." Each episode profiles one young trans person living today and one from the past. This episode features an interview with a Johns Hopkins doctor who treated trans youth back in the 1970s.

An anti-vaccine activist hired by RFK Jr. is hunting for proof of a cover-up. He's looking for evidence that federal officials buried data showing a link between vaccines and autism. Former CDC officials say no data was ever hidden. www.wsj.com/health/healt...

I’m sickened that more women with pregnancy difficulties will die in America’s Emergency Rooms without the care they need.

Hey everyone, I have a new story out showing how the sausage got made in the new NYT podcast on youth gender-affirming care. It's pretty ugly - my source refused to participate in the podcast so reporters used audio of her captured in public against her will.

If you're tired of Google's AI Overview extracting all value from the web while also telling people to eat glue or run with scissors, you can turn it off. There are several different methods depending on how. Here's one. arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024...

the core problem with "just triangulate" is that polling shows Harris won "voters who knew what the fuck was going on", which pretty directly implies that you cannot fix whatever problems we have by changing facts. the problem is people who don't know facts.

In the 80’s I had 2 miscarriages at home. It is unfathomable to me to think I would have been expected to call the police or anyone else in those personal moments! Women are being hunted, dehumanized and denied care all for losing a pregnancy. 20%(+\-) of all pregnancies are miscarried.

from the people that brought you "self deportations", here's "calling the cops on yourself"

Imagine going through a miscarriage and having to notify the police? Imagine having to be concerned about how distraught you seem, whether you said anything that could indicate you don’t want a baby, or whether you had ever looked up info on abortion? It’s not about life, it’s about control.

A West Virginia prosecutor says if miscarriage patients want to avoid criminal charges, they should “call 911” “Call your doctor. Call law enforcement, or 911, and just say, ‘I miscarried. I want you to know.’” jessica.substack.com/p/west-virgi...

“call law enforcement”?????

"'have confidence that most of the young boys and men in Nebraska know right and wrong, and they’ll take care of whoever tries to go in the locker room or restroom [they’re not supposed to], because it is silly that we should be having these conversations,' Pillen said.'"

In fairness to Marjorie Taylor Greene, maybe she *can’t* read. That tracks.

One thing they don't tell you about working at a lab (wet labs, in particular) is you have to secretly have a Masters in dishwashing and a PhD in janitorial management in order to survive in this environment.

ProPublica is hiring an audio host. Apply by June 26. Salary range: $150k-175k job-boards.greenhouse.io/propublica/j...

Asked PCP for a referral to PT for my shoulder. She says she wants to see me first. Next available appointment for her? August 29. Today is June 3. Makes sense to revoke foreign visas to restrict international medical graduates. It’s not like we have a shortage or anything.

Harvey Milk served his country honorably — first in uniform, then in public office. Taking his name off this Navy ship sends a clear message, and it’s one of disrespect and cruelty.

I have to admit, I'm genuinely worried about the likelihood that we simply don't have the mass of people with basic literacy in our society to make democracy *work*. In that kind of situation, what do we do?

The AViDD grant terminations (amidst everything else) have had really brutal ripple effects for the next generation of pandemic preparedness researchers. Some of the best up-and-coming talent in the field, now doing gig labor.

This is a reminder to myself to break out the good camera this year when we go on a daytime walk, so I can get some higher-quality pictures of him looking all handsome.
