I mean, the media also has a lot to answer for here, having spent the last half decade breathlessly and misleadingly reporting on an"epidemic" of trans kids. It's no wonder they are also bungling the story now that their moral panic has real world consequences.

This is both true and also more positive than you seem to believe. Social science research shows that it's almost impossible to change "hearts and minds". But strong norms can change BEHAVIOR. And that's what matters. I don't care if they support me "through gritted teeth". Just that they do.

It's become clear that at least a majority of people who claimed to support trans rights were doing so through gritted teeth because they felt like that was what the atmosphere of liberal propriety demanded. We can never trust the liberal establishment to believe what they say about civil rights

Absolutely astounding that it is still controversial to point out that the anti-trans movement is driven by bigotry, not ethics-in-research concerns about children. They keep fucking telling you this to your face!

The right doesn’t care about liberty or freedom or adding to the American experience. To them, it’s just another soulless, bigoted flanking maneuver meant only to extract liberty from one group of Americans in order to deliver a hateful win to another. 4/

Nothing. That’s the answer. Not a single fucking thing. But what is newsworthy, and what does bear extracting is this, buried about halfway down the seemingly never-ending gossip column. This is the real story about trans rights. For Republicans, it’s all about winning. And bigotry. And hate.

It really sucks that this is any kind of issue. We’ve had the right to amend passport genders since the early 90s, without it ever causing any trouble at all, but they hate us now, so…

If you wait until society is "ready" to extend human rights to everyone, you will be waiting forever. Sometimes you have to SHAPE public opinion, not be shaped by it. Sometimes you have to drag society into modernity kicking and screaming. That's the whole point of being a leader.

Looks like such a lovely wedding! I hope the newly wedded couple had an amazing day! I was unable to attend the protests in my city this week either but i’m so proud of everyone!

And you know what the talking heads seem to rarely use 'violent' to describe? The systemic destruction of families through ICE detentions and deportations. Breaking a window is framed *primarily* as violence, but taking a grandparent away from their kids or sending someone to a work camp isn't.

Wow this is wildly iconic! I need this to be like in a game or a show/movie.

I have been wondering this too, and the answer likely is yea.

I'm tired of these people defending obviously bad faith journalists as some noble thing when an entire community is telling them that their reporting bias is being used to persecute them. That career advancement must do wonders to help them sleep at night.
