Friday newsletter: Why Trump Blinked. charliesykes.substack.com/p/why-trump-...

Just some creepy armed Mad Max guys trying to gain entry to Dodgers Stadium. ICE says it wasn’t them. DHS says they were Border Patrol. But honestly who the hell knows? They’ve given permission for any psycho to put on a ski mask, point a gun, grab people & throw them into an unmarked vehicle.

If the vice president of the United States is looking for "common sense" analysis, I think it's common sense that the vice president should have more important things to do than trolling social media sites. Especially after telling us that he's definitely not been shut out of decisionmaking, no sir.

First time I've seen a tax cut so poorly designed that the dynamic score RAISES the cost by $356 billion. The infinitesimal growth revenues are dwarfed by the rising inflation and $441 billion in interest costs from higher interest rates.

Okay. The world can see this. Why it so hard for 30% of Americans to continue holding out hope a leopard will change it's spots?

He has to pay $2.3M.

Trump, the oldest man ever elected to the Presidency, does not look well tonight.

I have no idea how many people get their news from Foxnews.com rather than the cable channel, but those people would have no idea — none — that there were any protests today against the President. The only even tangentially related story I found on the home page: www.foxnews.com/us/gov-newso...

And there it is. The Minnesota assassin who shot Democratic lawmakers “voted for Donald Trump and was a strong Trump supporter,” according to his best friend.

Trump looks like an utter jackass. Marching soldiers like toys when a real war is going on. Attacking peaceful, productive Americans and dehumanizing them. Now an evil political assassination. He cannot and will not perform his job. Those who voted for him should forever hang their heads in shame.

Prices were double this last weekend for WorldPride.

The escalation is a *function* of the unpopularity. A president in the first few months of their term should be able to get their policy priorities through normal legislative means rather than by sending armed troops to quell protest.

Wow. New Quinnipiac poll finds Trump's approval at 38-54. And note this: Trump approval on immigration: 43-54 Approval on his deportations: 40-56 Can we say Trump isn't winning on this issue yet?

The Fox News mission in a nutshell. Use a manufactured crisis by the Trump administration to help prop up a former Fox News employee's political campaign -- in this instance, one-time host Steve Hilton, who is running for governor in California.

“This isn't law and order. This isn't making our country safer or fixing our border. And it isn't leadership.”

I’m not sure if you can overdose on schadenfreude but we’re about to find out

“Humanity rises and falls as one.” -Yurong “Luanna” Jiang And here she is. Please listen.👇

Stunning details now emerging: this was an operation planned a year and a half in advance, involved smuggling drones into Russia, placing them in containers on top of trucks, arranging for them all to open simultaneously and to strike.

I don't know if there is a more appropriate goodbye to Loretta Swit, than her last scene in MASH in the series finale. Loretta won two Emmy's for her role as Major Houlihan.

Jessica Tarlov: “He does these interviews and says I don't know, or I'm not sure. He was asked ‘do you need to uphold the constitution? I don't know, ask a lawyer’ … He may be in front of you, but that doesn’t mean that he’s not spewing utter BS.”

The GOP’s “big, beautiful bill” would be the biggest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in U.S. history. On average, someone in the top 0.1% would gain around $390,000 next year. But someone in the bottom 20% would lose $820, and nearly twice as much—$1,545—in 2033.

A Constant Theme From That Political Party….

My wife has been on a Netflix documentary binge and I generally keep her company but read or play games and ignore the documentary but I think it’s starting to seep into my consciousness because last night I dreamed my wife wanted us to tour the OJ Simpson Brentwood house to buy it and /1

This has always been the GOP's strategy: 1) Cut taxes for the wealthy & corporations by claiming they'll pay for themselves. 2) Explode the deficit. 3) Demand cuts to vital programs that help millions. 4) Repeat. They're trying to get away with it again.

Even after all this, the @nytimes continues to normalize it

Once again, the Press Secretary is lying

KAGAN: “If the idea is to reassure the markets, a simpler—and more judicial—approach would have been to deny the President’s application for a stay on the continued authority of Humphrey’s.” 🎯

Minutes apart 👀

🤷🏼‍♂️

The CBO just released a score on Republicans' existing mega-package and found that the GOP budget plan would increase the deficit by $2.3 trillion over a decade. It would boost the incomes of the richest 10% of Americans while lowering the incomes of the lowest 10%.

The tariffs are, of course, a drag on growth. The tax package, otoh, increases the deficit, so + fiscal impulse. What's the expected net impact? According to GS, it's negative. The tariff drag > than the fiscal boost. That said, when I look at this AM...

Vance is a genuine asshole, but I think he also sees assholery as a part of a winning political persona. What he misses is that lots of people see Trump as a *fun* asshole and that's why they like his schtick. But there's nothing fun about JD Vance and never will be.

Today May 15th is Peace Officers Memorial Day. Statements like this are inflammatory, disrespectful and flat out lies. Not only did you betray law enforcement, but you sided with people who attacked us. You don't support law enforcement, you are are a criminal.

Attorney General Pam Bondi sold $1 million to $5 million worth of shares in President Trump’s media company last month on the same day that he announced expansive tariffs that led to a stock market rout, according to disclosure filings.

Dear media reporters - Here is your “the president can’t accept a luxury jet from a foreign government” primer unless he is going to personally pay for it. Enjoy. youtu.be/trsFl6sR26w?...

On what planet is a jet provided by a foreign government ever something that the U.S. Government would rely upon for the security of the President of the United States?

www.wtrf.com/news/devasta... Bad news for electrifying everything - Cleveland-Cliffs cancels plans to invest in a transformer factory in Weirton, WV (also home to Form Energy) due to financial issues and uncertainty around, you guessed it, tariffs.

Oops.
