Love the misogynistic framing on this. Oprah didn’t shame James Frey, he shamed *himself* by lying extravagantly for fame and profit. But a woman had the nerve to scold him on TV, so fuck it, literary bad boy it is.

I watched this kid grow up alongside one of my dear friend’s daughters, since she was a small child. I’ve chaperoned her at birthday parties. Played board games with her. And now she’s been murdered, and it’s impossible to get your head around. Help out her poor mother, if you can.

Let's hear it for my dad, who stuck with and cared for my mom through all 20 years of her progressively worsening neurodegenerative disorder. She couldn't work or drive, lost her motor skills and basic hygiene, and died a slow, miserable death - he stuck around for all of it and still misses her.
