I read Fight Like Hell from the library and it prompted me to learn Spanish so I could go read the stories of LATAM workers who migrated here in their own words and a couple years on my life is immensely richer for it so thank you for that :) Bought a copy so I could hand you some money direct

Hmm... damn, yeah, he's right, that's the bad idea. Not giving a chat bot with no conception of the real world the ability to directly petition the state to enact violence upon you on its behalf, that's pretty reasonable all things considered.

Hope you find something in it! Vonnegut's funny for having my favorite book in Cat's Cradle and then also one of the few books I actually hated in Breakfast of Champions. Might be one of those things where I need to revisit it at different points in life though

It *is* hard to nail down a single one, but I'd probably say Vonnegut's "Cat's Cradle." It's my favorite book of all time and I think about it a lot when I consider my relationships with people, the meshing and clashing of people's motivations, letting things be, and the general absurdity of life.

I'm willing to bet at least one person thought "well this is slightly cheaper than pluralsight and I can talk to it." I hope they're doing better these days, but

Obviously google should never have implemented and forced it on all of us as default, but you can claw just a little bit back for yourself. I actually see relevant shit immediately now. And if your browser syncs settings between devices, set this up once and you're good to go everywhere else.

let's just take a quick look at that profile... "ken klippenstein is a heartless piece of shit"... "insurance companies won't take this lying down [picture of Harley Quinn]" in response to an article about BCBS getting ready to deny more health care to people.

Lease books on kindle? No thanks, the local has a giant ebook catalog.
Need a widget you're only going to use once? They got that for you, too.
Want to learn a skill? Bet there's a group for that.
Just lonely and need to get out of the house? Also a group for that.
Coolest place in town.

I had a tech at the pharmacy tell me the other day "I like your pokemon tattoos!... but I dunno how I feel about that Cubone" and I nearly broke down remembering sitting in the chair and thinking "oh man, this is gonna *kill* with the guy at the pharmacy" all that effort to please him for nothing

Fairly often. Pretty lucky to live about 10 minutes from some mid-19th century ruins of the old Quindaro Township that eventually got swallowed up in KCK. There's an overlook spot that offers a nice view of the ruins and the Missouri river while you ponder our ephemeral nature.
