Moderate, in a country where “don’t pick on people who aren’t hurting you” has somehow become radical. 8th grade math dropout, in a country where 6th grade math dropouts are somehow running economic policy.

Yes, but those were all men assaulting women & girls. It does surprise me that the bigots didn’t get squicked out by the idea of “the gays comin’ after are boys.”

I dunno, looks to me like if you ordered a Trump family from Trump. Sure doesn’t look any worse than Trump.

He never said he hired illegals. He said legal workers are being terrorized and “no one’s getting due process.” We HAVE TO be kind to people like him. Dem lege candidates should be knocking on his door & saying, “We know you didn’t vote for this. Wanna help us stop it?”
comment in response to

You should have, though. He didn’t say anything right wing. He sounds to me like exactly the kind of guy who’s still reachable; he believed Trump would only go after criminals & he IS bothered by anybody not getting due process. If he even voted, he didn’t vote for this.

Hmm sounds like what he wants is comprehensive immigration reform, not chaotic Mass deportations.

I really hope Lander is a good person, because ICE just made him mayor of New York.

How does he even know if they were menacing or not? He slept through the whole thing. And apparently half the potential audience missed it because there were no maps or signs for the entrances— thousands of people walked 3 miles around the outside fences.

I don’t know anything about Lander, but I hope he’s a good guy because ICE just made him mayor of New York.

They simply can’t comprehend that some people know things you can’t learn in an hour and that knowledge can save them a lot of trouble. If there had been some horrible accident, Trump & Hegseth would have said “Oh, nobody could have foreseen that!”

It’s the same malignant narcissist problem as everything Trump touches. “I am the only real person; anything I have not thought of has no value.” The entire administration is people who would never think of asking “Is there a reason why you do it this way?”

Oooh, a New Orleans high school band director could give us the coolest armed forces march ever. Second-lining the whole way!

I wonder how many missed the whole thing b/c they never found an entrance. Have these people never heard of printing maps and taping them to the fences?

As a person with zero training in any of that stuff, I looked at that pedestrian stair bridge thing & said “No effing way would I ever set foot on that in a crowd.” I mean, just somebody tripping & falling backward could trigger a crush.

It’s almost worth it just for the anti-Trump PR value. We need Dems to get the exact figures & then pound on “He spent more to entertain 120,000 spectators for 2 hours than these 20 national parks spend in a year. That 2-hr display cost more than these 50 cancer studies he cut,” etc.

I hope they ignore the geologists, blast enough to make the whole thing unstable, & then turn it over to the state to deal with. IMO it’s the least historically/culturally valuable site in the whole system, & no one would go to effing South Dakota to see Mt Rushmore State Park.
comment in response to

Well, he already put out a memo wanting to axe Rushmore completely, tho I’m sure he doesn’t know that. Project 2025 calls for getting rid of any NPS site that’s not designated “park.” Rushmore is a national memorial. Personally, I hope they do start carving him….

Small correction: I’m pretty sure the price tag on the Emoluments One plane renovation is in the 100s of millions, not tens.

Interesting that you heard it as “excuses.” My mind went directly to “he’s calling them cranky toddlers in a way that will make them look even more like cranky toddlers if they react.” He got himself, his crew, & his footage out of there safe.

That’s part of the point. It’s pretty hard for Trump to “other” the protesters when they’re gray-haired white ladies in sundresses.

My mom actually tried to turn it on just to make fun of the tiny crowd, but it doesn’t seem to be airing on broadcast channels here, not even the local Fox.

I think we need a term like “conflict manufacturing chamber” for other social media. Blsky is just a space for normal human social interaction. There is no real-world situation in which we DON’T ignore & reject people who disagree with our fundamental moral values or who deliberately provoke anger.
comment in response to

I block far fewer than that, because I generally don’t need to. There’s no algorithm deliberately generating anger. But the early Bluesky “don’t engage, just block” experience has made Facebook far more usable.

Not him, but you get a bunch of lawyers spreading this fact & pretty soon the Guard commanders have a meeting & put out a letter saying something along the lines of “We regret to inform the Secretary that per section XYZ of document 123, these units are not available for deployment.”

WTF are you talking about? They “turned on him” in 2020. We’re not talking about people who own a MAGA hat. It’s the millions who stayed home last November b/c they “didn’t know enough about Harris.” We need the “I don’t like Trump, but…” voters to drop the “but.”

I’m sorry, but would ANY past press secretary who issued a threat against a journalist for a statement of opinion (no call for violence, no swearing, no threat of any kind) NOT have been fired on the spot? Come effing on, Congress. Where are you?

What do you want her to do? She’s already going to vote the way her constituents want. Now all she can do is tell the rest of us what’s really in the bill so we pressure our senators to do the same.

Yes, but those who know this know this, and those who don’t know this don’t want to know it. Metz is taking advantage of Trump’s narcissism by taking advantage of his ignorance.

Also find educational media folks & create “Schoolhouse Rock” type spots. Those were engaging w/out being condescending, & Gen X remembers them 50 years later.

I think all those fired interpretive park & forest rangers would be an excellent resource. They made their living boiling down complex science, historical, & safety info into 60-second orientations. They work cheap, & Dems hiring them would keep them around to rebuild their agencies post-🍊.
