I wrote about Gov. Greg Abbott, who is currently deciding whether to sign a very stupid THC ban in Texas, or risk nuking a now-$5.5 billion state industry that's praised by veterans and thousands of Texans (who are furious about this bill). #txlege thebarbedwire.com/2025/06/03/t...

With the New York Times continuing its attack on trans people, I wrote about its failures and how Azeen Ghorayshi has led the charge to weaponize their coverage against the trans community and launder anti-trans talking points into the mainstream. www.thedissident.news/the-new-york...

True story ⤵️

MURPHY: Did you worry about what your decision would do to these kids where you've ripped away their counselors & social workers literally in the middle of the program? McMAHON: I certainly worry about mental health MURPHY: It's a really cruel thing to do M: I can't evaluate every program

If you were wondering why Trump’s war on Harvard matters, here is The Times of London detailing the costs: cancelling a planned TB vaccine, ending a clinical trial for severely allergic children, killing a new generation of air purifiers, curtailing research on ALS. www.thetimes.com/us/american-...

If Leonard Leo is out, who’s calling the judicial shots for Trump now? I have an answer. You’re not gonna like it. But still, the FedSoc/Trump war is a good thing because it will slow Trump’s nominations down. My latest in @thenation.com

Might be off base here, but it feels like there's a subset of readers that expects every POV character to be "good", and the idea that the character's meant to be complicated, or conflicted, or even unlikable, goes right over their heads and instead they see it as a moral failing of the author's.

Incredible that Democrats took the Wall Street insight ("Trump backs down from wrecking the economy so reliably you can trade on it") and turned it into the social media equivalent of trying to goad him into action by wearing a chicken suit, baiting him back into tariffs and away from the Iran Deal.

REED: We have this crisis in education and literacy, what we're gonna do is pull back and let the states do it McMAHON: No. We'll spend it more responsibly REED: I doubt it very seriously McMAHON: Let's hope we do REED: Hope is not a plan

Can you believe it

The untamed beauty of wildflowers. When I was little, I called cornflowers, ‘raggedy blue flowers’. I walked out of the school playground once to go and see them. Made perfect sense to me, at age 5 😀 #bloomscrolling #nature #flowers #gardeningfeed #wildflowers #photography #floralphotography

While waiting for a bus this morning, I saw this European hare (Lepus europaeus) looking for breakfast close by. I couldn't get closer than about 10 m (33") and these are the best pictures I could manage with my phone.

🦎Northern Tenerife Lizard (Gallotia galloti ssp. eisentrauti). Max. size 40 cm (15.7"). Males are larger than females. Found on Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Has also been introduced to the island of El Hierro. This subspecies has not been evaluated by the IUCN. 📷by Hans on Pixabay

It really feels like we don’t talk enough about how much COVID has fucked up our politics, our culture, and all of us personally. It’s not surprising considering how absolutely averse this country is to confronting trauma, but sometimes it still needs to be said.

Last week, MainFT spotted an obscure but explosive provision buried deep in the Trump administration’s budget bill, Section 899. Here's another one – Section 50005 – which could kill the US Treasury's Office of Financial Research and sabotage the calculation of SOFR. 😑 www.ft.com/content/7962...

Canadians make up the largest proportion—nearly 28 percent—of international travelers visiting Florida. They also comprise the largest number of international visitors for the entire United States. But that comfortable relationship may be taking a turn.

To be clear, they're going to offer you naming it Harriet Tubman if you just agree to forget WE exist.

Happy Pride Month!

I cannot take people who opine on ebike regulations because some asshole was going too fast on a shared trail seriously. American drivers are killing 40,000+ people a year by the way

When you want Americans to be arrested for helping America's allies fight America's enemy, that can only mean one thing: You are one of America's enemies.

Fierce.

Apparently Marge didn’t read the bill before she voted for it.

Stephen King knows horror better than anyone.

It says a lot about where we’re at in this country that a beloved voice actor was murdered by his homophobic neighbor and every headline is still running passive defense for his killer, doing everything not to call this hate crime what it was. These are scary times. RIP to Jonathan Joss.

I’m officially running to be the Ranking Member of the House Oversight Committee. These are not normal times—and this cannot be a business-as-usual moment. Read my full letter to my colleagues here: crockett.house.gov/media/press-...

No more masked ICE agents. Unmask the terrorists.

And this is what I mean about backlash.

Once viewed as the path out of the pandemic, mRNA vaccines are now being vilified — & not just by fringe figures. The attack on this important platform could render the US far more vulnerable in the next pandemic & trailing China in the field of scientific advances. www.statnews.com/2025/06/02/m...

eventually they're going to present us with a groundbreaking humanoid robot workforce that's just migrant labor at slave wages painted silver

I cannot get over these cops wearing night vision to arrest a dude on a Southwest Airlines flight in broad daylight.

Geert Wilders: Dutch government collapses as far-right leader exits coalition

The non-Cuomo candidates have kept going to @aoc.bsky.social for an endorsement. She has kept telling them to come to her with a coordinated strategy between them for how to beat him. Some, in frustration, have told her she doesn't get how politics works. www.cnn.com/2025/06/03/p...

The media have been complicit with the government in covering up the threat of the ongoing Covid pandemic and the risks to the public. If they’re recommending N95s, we should pay attention. They don’t suggest masks lightly.

Weinstein's sex crimes conviction in New York was overturned last year. In a new trial, three accusers have testified that Weinstein assaulted them. Closing arguments are underway.

It's a valuable window into fascist bullyboy psychology - all the US Cavalry bullshit they buy online is just visible symbols of status and power, they don't actually know how it's supposed to work or what its practical function is meant to be

I'm not otg so please correct me if I'm wrong but from vids it sure looks like ICE showed up in force in MPLS, but the community reaction was so swift they completely failed to arrest their targets, arrested a few protestors and fled, which is replicable countrywide and a huge fucking win

whats wild is that our political opposition is a bunch of punks who spiral out quickly if you mock them and we on the left keep operating like we're in victorian high society when we're really in the high school cafeteria and we should just shove them inside their lockers

ICE goons roleplaying Call of Duty while in front of a Mexican restaurant with a sign that says “Make Tacos not Walls”, as if the symbolism could get more on the nose

The U.S. government is breaking up families without an ounce of compassion. ICE is detaining migrants at court—asking judges to dismiss cases so they can arrest people as they leave & shove them into fast-track deportation. Word’s out: Show up, risk deportation. Stay home, lose your case.

In arguing against having a Dept of Education, Sen Markwayne Mullin asks: “What was we ranked in 1979?” What was we ranked…

A Texas bill that could soon become law would require labels on packaged foods like Doritos, M&Ms, and Mountain Dew that warn about ingredients "not recommended for human consumption" in other countries.
