What does Rubio know about Russia and its reputation three - sorry, 11 years - into invasion of a sovereign, democratic, progressive, courageous nation? Another mark of shame for the Trump administration, not for freedom-loving American people.

Thanks for this, explaining the depths to which some sections of the world's people can sink, in order to justify their and their leaders' existence. Unhappy, unfulfilled, empty people who prefer pretence, myth and false superiority to living in the flawed but real, responsible world.

Veto should be total, and include the Russian tennis players playing currently at Queen's and, later, Wimbledon.

There is no point engaging with a President who accepts that Putin has a right to hit back at a nation defending its very existence against a massively bigger attacker. The world admires endurance and ingenuity, not cowardice.

The impossibility of critiquing Trump's economic policy. Written by a Nobel prizewinner, May 8: Trump, however, has already declared that the tariff that really matters right now, the prohibitive 145 percent rate on imports from China, won’t be coming down.

I'm unclear, I thought Trump had restored full cooperation on intelligence and military supplies to Ukraine, after a brief interruption.

Usually more explicit in Ireland. So Sheela na gig isn't exclusively Celtic or Irish.

Another campaign speech at the White House. Boring, repetitive, puerile, whiney, lying, hateful, pathetic, vengeful, just the usual. How could you have voted for this guy twice?

When I visited Teos, near Izmir, with a Turkish archaeologist, in 1980s there were no buildings as I remember. My wife stubbed toe on what seemed a stone. Was identified as a loom weight with indentations on the clay on both sides which did not penetrate it. Thought maybe a toy made for child.

That ghastly truck and a Tesla were the background to today's on-the-go Trump-Musk interview. Looked a bit desperate, so made me happy, regardless of the tariff nonsense.

Reality, as opposed to Trump's claims the Russians are ready for peace. Every US TV network should show this, the only way it might be seen on the White House.
comment in response to

And Trump is ok with that expression of Russia's desire for a peace deal?
comment in response to

Obviously Trump wants to carve up the world with other authoritarian states like Russia and China. As in WW2 the only question is how long it takes for the democratic nations to band with US democrats to defeat him and the lies he feeds his cult support. Time to act, not mock.

Genuine question: were other authoritarians like Hitler and Castro as deceptive and incorrigible in their claims as Trump?

Who wrote this, and does Huffpost not owe the world an apology? "Zelensky ended up leaving the White House without signing a deal which would have given America access to Ukraine’s mineral resources in exchange for military support." He didn't sign because he didn't get military support.
comment in response to
post
Someone explain to me why all the pressure was on Zelensky, to get him to sign away assets without military guarantees, and none on Putin, the aggressor? King Donald demands tributes.
comment in response to
post
The US president and vice president know better than a man who has been fighting an existential war for three years as to what kind of peace, involving a handover of mineral assets, he should accept. He was asked to trust Putin, if peace was agreed, without a guarantee of American military support.

If Trump and Zelensky do a deal on minerals and rare earths the only way it can pay America is that Ukraine survives the Russian invasion. That means more involvement in Ukraine's struggle, as Putin claims it is part of imperial Russia. What sort of peace is being achieved?
comment in response to
post
You're right, teacher, but the art of my deal with Russia is to base it on lies. That's a lovely promise you gave me about your rare earths, I'm sure you won't let me down. (Thinks: neither of us will be around when they're due.)

So freakish they are bound to fall out and devour each other. Took a war to deliver us from the last lot, but surely we can get the masses to pay attention?

Be sure we across the Atlantic are with the resist movement and against the oligarchy that subjects us all. Those who only value wealth must be hurt in wallets and ratings, and their decent successors must unite round a plan. Otherwise worse days will follow.

Trump is effectively a Russian, in his dealings with Ukraine, so should the rest of the world assume that all his supporters in Congress also side with Russia? What are we to make of Musk wielding a chain saw and preparing to buy another election?
