@williamnb.bsky.social cycling around france I often wondered if it would have been a good idea to carry an adapter for the campervan hookups (On days when the SON hub couldn't charge the phone and kindle I had to hope the wash block had shaver sockets). Seems like with an ebike you could carry […]

@cstross my ex-flatmate worked for them writing the OS, when the 5 was being developed she had a unique one in lime green (all the early access copies were different colours so they'd know who leaked). So jealous, to this day.

@kim_harding reminds me of the time I was heading back from John O Groats to Glencoe on the bike (after LEJoG). My sis suggested the great glen way cycle path - which had recently been withdrawn, and I ended up at this gate after Drumnadrochit... there was no […]

@evandahm.bsky.social 3.14GB. On the basis that if you've no idea, guess pi. I've a ton of stuff from comixology/amazon that stored waaaaaay smaller for many books larger than this but I have to guess that the hi-res originals are way bigger.

@gazza-d.bsky.social @williamnb.bsky.social I'd somehow missed that Will is bridged to the fediverse, so my previous reply to you about a Glasgow route didn't go to him https://hachyderm.io/deck/@bazzargh/114426026379236131

@gazza-d.bsky.social hmm, here in Glasgow the closest fit would probably be from Glasgow Green to Kelvingrove Park along the river; you get to see Templeton On The Green, the Doulton Fountain, the Science Centre, Finnieston Crane, the Tall Ship, Hadid's Transport Museum, Kelvingrove Art Gallery […]

@evandahm.bsky.social I've seen Altman's 1973 The Long Goodbye described as postmodern. I like the film well enough, but postmodernism is such a nebulous label, who knows. Though in contrast to the latest cartoon and Chandler, Altman's Marlowe is incompetent to the point of being unable to track […]

@llewelly @b0rk yes, eg https://ghostty.org/docs/config/reference#minimum-contrast - I found I had to set it to about 2 for good results. At 3 (the value the docs recommend) the greyed-out autocomplete in zsh became white all the time for me. Worth fiddling with a bit.

@kenwhite.bsky.social was a bit confused reading this thinking this involved chestbursters during an in-game bike race. Am wondering if the wee alien head counts in a photo finish. Anyway, like this genre mash up, next up Track&Field&Predator

@johncarlosbaez I used to be, for a short while, 35 years ago. I've completely forgotten all of this stuff - not that I was any good at it back then - but the answer you seek was a couple of hops from the wikipedia page; Appendix A2 of "The Interacting Boson Model (IBM) of the Atomic Nucleus, an […]

@gazza-d.bsky.social that is a weird road layout tho, putting the no-entry in a position where a u-turn is the only option - seems like it would have been less confusing to start the bus lane back at the lights.
The only people who need the dead-end road are the police, the council offices and […]

@sundogplanets there's a paper on this here https://arxiv.org/abs/2008.13032 ; the proportions it gives are a little surprising because instead of the commonly bandied figure of 40kt/y for natural material entering the atmosphere, it uses a lower estimate of 12kt/y, which makes the current […]

@yabellini I once wrote the xml schema for the planning applications here (in Scotland), 20 years back. The remit was they had to reuse definitions from the ones in England, which had been written by IBM consultants, and smelled like they'd generated them by dumping a database schema. I wrote a […]
