Let me add that I'm disappointed so little has changed in the 3 or 4 decades since the Bears became a thing.

Good article, thanks. It's a damn shame racism exists in any group of people who call themselves a community, but especially egregious in #BearCommunity. We can do better. Of course, in my book "Bears on Bears," I did an interview on "Black Bears and Bears of Color." amazon.com/dp/1983462756/

"Students learned more about Maybrick from SKS archivist Marge Smith and New Milford author Ron Suresha, both of whom have explored Maybrick’s story." ' “It’s been so cool to have both Marge and Ron,” LaBlond said. “They provided a lot of sources, whether it’s books or documents." Good luck, guys!

I was there then, & I did not vote for that. Who says the sexual & gender minorities alphabet soup must always start with L? We owe much to lesbian leadership, but they have also oppressed bi women in the movement. There are more Bs than Gs Ls Ts Qs &c. combined. It's also first alphabetically.

A visual feast! E. W. Bullinger published together in one hardbound volume a delightful compendium of alphabets, monograms, initials, crests, &c., in 1890. This calligraphic volume contains the original book's contents, including the covers, inserts, and printed endpapers. #TypographicalArt

It has always been clear to me that BGLTIQA2S+* . . . are all sexual minorities. But some incurious folks don't want to read about other people's perspectives, whether that's fiction or nonfiction. *BTW . . . B goes 1st, since there are more of us than all the rest combined. 😘😍🥰

Tell me truthfully, little caped cow*: am I being too circumspect in my branding? Everybody loves a cow, but most people are . . . wait for it . . . kinda cowed . . . by a brown bear. *Do you have a name? I'm Bernhard.

Now tbh, sweet li'l cow,* you've kinda promoted products in a sort of positive customer-appreciative role. My promotional approach is more ... bearish. *do you have a name? I'm Bernhard

I love it when a big ol' book bear and a sweet li'l cow wearing a cape can share a joke.

Her death in 1941 revealed her as the Mrs. Maybrick to the world with a front-page NYT obit. Her legacy was reconsidered when a disputable "Diary" implicated her in a possible familial relationship with Jack the Ripper. "Death of the Cat Lady: The Lost Life of Florence Maybrick" #catladies 4/4

She returned to the States, wrote a book, and toured the country speaking on prison reform. After falling on hard times, she pseudonymously moved to my town, New Milford, CT, and lived 23 years as a poor recluse, supported by neighbors and her friends at a local boys' school. 3/

My #WIP work-in-progress is a historical biography of Florence Chandler Maybrick, the first American woman sentenced to be hanged in Britain in a famous 1889 trial. Public uproar on both sides of the Atlantic caused her sentence to be commuted, and she served 15 years in British prisons. 2/
