threatened by any tool we have now, but I think (hope) that when a working class movement does arise it might find itself against extremely soft enemies whose abilities to defend themselves in a class war context have atrophied

once the investor value (or perception thereof) is broken it's all over. Musk and similar might be even more vulnerable than we assume because capital in its terminal crisis is even more brittle and risk-averse than it has ever been. I think these structures are still too strong to be meaningfully

he is correct to panic a "loss" in this "value" (the perception by the capital class that his repositories are no longer safe profit centers) because it could cause the whole house of cards to collapse. Tesla doesn't find value in its shitty cars, it finds it in being a valuable investor asset

my take is that his worth is only representative of an inaccessible abstract. He could never convert eg. all valuation of Tesla into anything useable. I'd go so far to say all "value" regarding his companies are just signals that theyre safe repositories for liquid capital sloshing around the market

you keep bringing up communism, but I am only asking you if they are capitalist countries, which they must be as they use money and engage in trade
comment in response to
post
I see, so capitalism refers to any economic system that includes a money form (as opposed to just in-kind trade). In that case, is there a term for the system we're living under now that distinguishes it from earlier economic configurations?

regardless of "autocracy" or Castro's noble struggle, we can agree that North Korea, the USSR, and Cuba are all capitalist countries, in that they are all countries that practice (or have practiced) capitalism: they used and issued money, engaged in trade of goods and services, and so forth?
comment in response to

okay! great, thank you! we agree that "capital" and "capitalism" and "money" are not all synonyms. I take your reply to mean that you consider the whole history of human economic activity (at least involving money and/or trade) to be "capitalism". Am I correct?
comment in response to
post
Ok. Could you please answer my question, though? Why do people, especially eg. historians and economists not use the words "capitalism" and "economy" to mean the same thing? Have they all been tricked by communists?
comment in response to
post
Okay, so then you would agree that by your definition, North Korea (Cuba, the USSR, etc.) are all capitalist countries because they all practice capitalism?
comment in response to
post
Let's try to stay focused. Is it your belief that the words "capital" and "capitalism" and "money" are all interchangeable synonyms?
comment in response to
post
Are you able to answer my question?
comment in response to
post
Ok, just so I'm clear, your position is that "capitalism" refers to the totality of human economic activity and also the word "capitalism" was invented in 1872 for socialists to disparage business owners with?
comment in response to
post
also, and this is honestly pretty minor considering how deep into left field we are here. "Capital" does not mean "money", either. Capital *can* mean money in the sense of an asset of stored value, but so can gold or stock or whatever other assets.

Okay, sure, I am ideologically compromised by evil pinko scum. I concede that. Anyway, could you please answer my question? Is North Korea a capitalist country? Does Cuba operate under the same economic system as the United States? Did the USSR? They all used money. They all engaged in trade.
comment in response to

once again, "capitalism" does not mean "money" or "trade". No one here but you is confused as to the meanings of these words or how old the concepts of coinage or trade are.
Leaded gasoline really did a number on you guys, huh?
comment in response to

do you think the words "capitalism" is synonymous (this means a different word for the same thing) with "economy"? Why do you think people use one word instead of the other? To sound smart? To intentionally confuse you?
comment in response to

North Korea mints money, North Koreans engage in interpersonal exchange of goods and services. The nation enjoys some degree of international trade. Is North Korea a capitalist country? Is Cuba? Was the Soviet Union?

this wikipedia article, which I must stress is something you posted to prove your point, places the development and adoption of capitalism in the 17th-19th centuries
comment in response to
post
"capitalism" is also not synonymous with "money", which predates the economic system of capitalism by many centuries
comment in response to
post
Capitalism is not synonymous with "trade", no. This is not a definition of capital that anyone uses, or even makes any sense. You are completely incorrect here.

Furthermore we have a pretty complete picture of the development and evolution of economic systems since at least the first millennium BC. Capitalism doesn't stretch back into prehistory.
