I can accept that #Labour need to make changes with regard to immigration & overseas aid but I think their Comms leave a lot to be desired.

Oh the irony of proclaiming the peace, then hailing a new arms deal. Clearly, nothing stands in the way of making money!

Fantastic ending to Baroness Kidron's speech in the House of Lords yesterday, which led to the government's defeat on AI & copyright. Speaking the UK's creators: "Their property, their labour, is worthy of your protection - because apart from anything else, it is not ours to give away."

Well done @itvnews.bsky.social on pointing out the soaring rise in immigration “since we completed Brexit” - a key factor. This should be pointed out to Farage (who championed Brexit) in every interview

Another worthy candidate imo.

If I were allowed to vote in Guernsey elections (& it is a sore point that UK expats living in Gsy & overseas are allowed to vote in UK elections) Yvonne would get my vote.

Was suppressing COVID-19 such a crazy idea? Anthony Costello says no. 🧪 #episky www.bmj.com/content/389/...

One question for #Labour How can social care & #NHS survive without immigration?

#Brexit as the solution to controlling borders & immigration was a lie & completely unnecessary. Most immigration to UK was/is non EU & always within control of govt.

Because it’s always worth 1 new person discovering them. youtu.be/PT9hvyDvKHA?...

80 years of freedom. Happy Liberation Day, Guernsey! 🇬🇬

For no reason at all, I feel obliged to point out that Liberation Day is the national hoiday of the Bailiwicks of Jersey and Guernsey, where this year on the 9th of May we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the ending of the islands' occupation by the Nazis. #jersey #channelislands

Sending love to all family & friends celebrating #Liberation80 #Guernsey #Jersey #ChannelIslands & freedom. Also thinking of those who are occupied today!

From King Charles's speech on VE Day, "The allied victory being celebrated then and now was the result of unity between nations, races, religions, and ideology" "Their collective endeavour remains a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when countries stand together in the face of tyranny"

Well it’s now public and on the website. 5 years on I finally get the chance to talk about Milton Keynes and Covid testing.

So many Russians lost their lives in order to defeat an invading Nazi army & bring peace. Today Russia is that invading force. How can they celebrate? #VictoryInEurope

Bill Gates said the world's poorest would receive some $200 billion via his foundation as he pledged to give away almost his entire personal wealth in the next two decades, at a time when governments worldwide are slashing international aid reut.rs/3StcPn2

During the occupation #Guernsey the RAF dropped leaflets to keep spirits up & bring news from England. This one dated Sept 1940 implied that occupation might not last long. In the event, it lasted 5 years!

“This is the nature of nationalist populism, whether it wears a red cap in Michigan or a turquoise rosette in Runcorn. It is expert at turning grievance, division+nostalgia into votes. But when it comes to governing, it will always fail. It offers an outlet for complaint – +has no answers at all.”

Best for Britain's Tom Brufatto: "If Starmer wants to deliver on his promise of national renewal, he must avoid short-term wins and focus on the prize that really matters: growth through a common sense deal with the EU on trade."

I had a productive call with Ursula von der Leyen this morning. We’re ready to build on our free trade relationship, bolster economic security, and work side-by-side on shared defence and security challenges. When Canada and the European Union build together, our futures are stronger.

If #Starmer ‘s Labour have a plan for change I want to see them carry it out, not waste the next 4 years appeasing & worrying about right wing populists & the next election. Go for it but sell it to us more convincingly!

100% agree - Andy Burnham, Manchester Mayor “Let me say something about this situation. The biggest rupture in all of that [Nigel Farage and Reform gaining votes] – is Brexit. I think partly, what Labour now needs to do, is talk more about Brexit, and how it has damaged this country’s prospects”

Farage and Reform whip up people’s prejudices, then offer to get rid of what they hate.Their power feeds off ignorance and hatred. They make people angrier about the stuff they fear, then promise to fix it. Of course they won’t. But they know who to tell you to blame when they fail. (Letters, Times)
