Love that you're pointing out that this particular King may have no clothes. My wife and I stopped watching mid-way through season 2 for all the reasons you mentioned, and one more... the pacing is excessively slow.

I never had any problem with it, but I also first learned programming on the 6502 with no MMU/malloc, so you were basically a human MMU and the idea of addressable memory was just what programming was. So it was sort of a native concept for me.
