It really says something about where networking has come that I can download data from the internet at 100 MBps and still find myself annoyed that it's taking so long.

Not ideal when it feels like we’re on the brink of war and everyone assumes it’s because a parade sucked.

We’re announcing new legislation — the No Secret Police Act (SB 627) — to ban local/state/federal law enforcement, w/ some exceptions, from covering their faces when interacting w/ the public & require them to wear identifying info. The secret police behavior we’re seeing destroys trust & must end🧵

this was a constant of the first term too except it’s way worse this time just a constant endless barrage of awful as he inserts himself into every aspect of our lives unwanted even if you aren’t directly affected by his policies personally it never stops

Mr. Antiwar President has us inches away from a Civil War at home and a nuclear war abroad in defense of an ally that is starting random hot regional wars to detract from its ongoing genocide. I’m sure all of this will just naturally cool off.

A couple of days ago I got a PayPal scam email but they'd accidentally misspelled PayPal as Papal about half the time and it made me laugh.

Congratulations to my @feldera.bsky.social colleague Mihai Budiu for winning the 2025 SIGCOMM Networking Systems Award for his work on the P4 network programming language! www.sigcomm.org/awards/sigco...

The owner of Twitter sends out 100 right wing propaganda tweets every single day and the algorithm is set up so that every single person on Twitter has to see every single one of these tweets. Now here’s another piece about Blue Sky’s ideological diversity problem.

Congratulations to Bruce Davie for receiving the SIGCOMM 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award! www.sigcomm.org/awards/sigco...

I attended the San Jose #nokings protest this afternoon. There were thousands of people. I did not see any police or, indeed, any need for them. I took many, many photographs (all with permission, except for the large crowd shots): photos.app.goo.gl/MFC4vfkZfHog...

I have a lot of issues with Gavin Newsom but he is calling out Trump in a way other major leaders aren’t and if he causes Trump to have a stroke I will buy him a latte

I am going to a protest tomorrow. It will be the first time ever for me. It is time and past time.

Impeachment and removal. It's not enough, but it's a good start.

It’s completely insane that US troops are illegally deployed to suppress domestic opposition and it’s not uniformly condemned by the press and political elite.

California is home to the most immigrants out of any state in the nation. We also have the strongest economy out of any state in the nation. Not despite our immigrant population –– but because of it.

Gerd is a great speaker! Please drop by next Wednesday to listen to his talk. I guarantee you will learn something new.

RIP Brian Wilson. I saw the Beach Boys perform over 10 years ago. Brian Wilson was the only original member of the band, along with much younger musicians. The song that made an impression on me in their set was Wouldn't It Be Nice. How much older can one get? I guess we finally found out.

When people report that an LLM query uses a certain amount of water, what do they mean? What happens to the water?

The founding fathers did not live and die to see this moment. It’s time for all of us to stand up peacefully.

god i just cannot imagine giving a shit about what gender strangers live their lives in. like we get really wrapped up in layers of using science and poetry to defend ourselves but holy shit are transphobes just fucking busybody creeps

This actually sounds better in the original German.

I interviewed for a role at OpenAI years ago and I'm so glad I didn't take it.

I never thought before that the 3rd Amendment could come into play, but we'll see.

I continue to be astonished that Tom Cotton is not a satirical character but the real name of a real senator from the south.

Really fucking grateful to the protesters holding it down in LA. People are standing up to the bullies, fucking finally. And let's be clear, it is courageous as hell. Cops (or troops) are going to murder protesters. That's the Trump administration's goal here.

He just sucks so incredibly much

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

Is there actually a dramatic "reading of the will" when someone dies like on TV?

I wish safety to everyone in LA.

Me: Is it ok for me to be the landlord of the concentration camp? NYT: Yes that is fine. Me: Thank you.

Seems bad.

cat turd is pushing for impeachment which means the president might have to fire big balls, meanwhile unclear how it’ll affect space if the dragon is decommissioned and other sentences the aliens are going to be unable to translate someday

Our team @lalithsuresh.bsky.social and Matt Kinney will be visiting people interested in making their workloads running faster at Data+AI Summit next week. Talk to them!

I'm worried that some kind of major disaster will strike California--fires or earthquakes--and then FEMA will do nothing.

I wish docs.rs or Rustdoc provided an overview of what features enable what. It has at least some of the information since it annotates functions with notes like "Available on crate feature stats only." I just want those notes brought together into summaries. #rust #rustlang

Fun data structure of the day!

pretty soon I'll be running foo -- -- --bar with all these wrapper programs that don't forward flags

Why do some #coffee beans grind faster and others slower? With some beans, it takes about 30 seconds to get as much as I want for my cup; with others, it takes as little as 20 seconds. I grind for one cup at a time for my French press.

TIL that you can write "_ = ...;" instead of `let _ = ...;" and both the compiler and Clippy are happy with it. #rust #rustlang
