There should be an implicit assumption that everyone's playing a game here, so to speak, and that it's not representative of real life. Moderation makes our game here align better to real life, it counteracts anonymity to some extent without exposure. I'm increasingly of the opinion that it's needed

I think there should be some research and education on how social media affects we perceive others in real life. People should be aware that such anonymous platforms create a different method of communication, a different language.

This is really cool and very useful, but I think people (including me) can't help themselves become argumentative and hurtful (much mroe so than real life) when there are no consequences. People simply act differently here. Therefore I'd say these platforms aren't really "social" media.

Anonymity allows people to express themselves to a degree previously impossible, now I just click a link and I'm not Berken anymore, just another faceless pseudonym. No matter what country I live in, no matter how differently I think, now I can express myself unburdened by context. Total freedom.

Old habits die hard. Unless a collective reaction against American platforms emerges, there has to be some sort of incentive to switch to a new platform.
