Breaking news: The US has been stripped of its top-notch triple-a credit rating by Moody’s on concerns about rising levels of government debt www.ft.com/content/e456...

Mick Lynch "Nigel Farage is a racist." We shouldn't be copying his policies.

One of the strangest ironies of the last ten years has been watching Britain immersing itself as deeply as ever in memories of WW2 while proudly turning its back on the project that emerged from it.

An anniversary worth marking. I'm sure we're going to see the very people who have trashed its legacy seek to appropriate WW2 today - so let's remember what was really fought for: peace, a more united Europe, a land fit for heroes (mark 2) and the defeat of fascism.

Orlando City Commissioner Tony Ortiz just switched from Republican to Democratic. “The Republican Party is not the party I signed up with... The marginalization of Latinos and immigrants—many of whom have helped build this country—is not leadership. It’s fear-based politics.”

Crockett: Instead of the President cosplaying as the next pope, he may want to cosplay as an actual President of these United States. That means he may have to do a little bit of research and understand that he swore a an oath to defend and protect the constitution.

BBC News, "Russian spies attended Brexit event in Parliament in 2016"

Immigration is not the problem it’s now widely believed to be. Brexit is much more of a problem than it’s reported to be. So how can govt achieve growth, fix public svcs and deal with the cost of living if fear of Reform means it won’t be honest with us about these 2 elephants in the room? It can’t.

Analysis of the English local elections by Sir John Curtice: “support for Reform averaged 43% in wards where more than half of adults have few, if any, educational qualifications. In contrast, it polled just 19% where more than two in five have a degree.”

Hey British media, It’s no surprise that if you give Farage the run of the place, he’ll start winning. Time to do your actual jobs and start interrogating him on his Brexit shitshow, his funding, his Trumpiness, his idiotic manifesto, his real plans for the NHS… instead of drumrolling him into No.10

People like Andrea Jenkyns: Why won’t immigrants integrate and embody British values? Also people like Andrea Jenkyns: if you have a foreign accent you’ll never be part of this country and shouldn’t stand for election.

Next week Farage will wrap himself in a Union Jack to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day. He will do so despite being best mates with German Nazis. No-one in the broadcast media will call him out on this.

Since the election win Labour have 1. Appeased the far right 2. Delivered otherwise good policy ideas in a bad way e.g. WFA 3. Targeted the disabled with cuts instead of the richest with a wealth tax The result? 808 Reform councillors Labour need to change direction and be less cruel, fast

🩵🩵💙🩵💙🩵 Morning Blue Sky Thinkers! As you mull over the results of last night’s council/ mayoral results, a bit of advice… #reformuk #localelections

The markets know the difference.

Violette Simpson, Reform UK's candidate in #Calne Central, #Wiltshire. Her candidate statement doesn't include her love of this, unsuprisingly.

A huge blow for the leader of Canada’s Conservatives, one that will call his own political future into doubt. Not sure I’ve heard the modern Conservatives called the “Tories” for a while…

Spontaneous applause breaks out when a man as brave, beloved, and deeply respected as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrives. As for Trump — silence. And this variety of silence is not golden.

Glorious. Beautiful. Game changing. Wake up with a song of joy in your heart.

It’s not that difficult a choice.

“We are over the shock of the American betrayal, but we should never forget the lessons. We have to look out for ourselves and above all, we have to take care of each other” - Mark Carney

When is Starmer going to wake up and recognise that the world has changed and his red lines, which have always been foolish, are now just utter madness? sussexbylines.co.uk/politics/why...

Nothing like a collective effort to show how quickly the wheels can come off.

The best way we can fight fascism in the UK over the next few days is to mobilise the largest possible anti-Farage vote in the local elections. In a low turnout election, a voter mobilisation campaign can work. We can burst Farage's bubble. Please share this message Fight Fascism #Vote4Democracy

We have great potential for more cooperation on energy, with the North Sea serving as our shared energy vault, dear Keir Starmer. In defence and security, with a dedicated partnership. And on illegal migration, a common challenge which requires joint answers Full statement → europa.eu/!rtnQfW

Nick Robinson on the BBC asked why are the Green Party invisible? Perhaps it is because he and the BBC almost never invite them on their shows.

In America, health care is big business. In Canada, it’s a right. That's because workers like the women and men of SEIU provide that care every day. Together, we’ll build a better health care system — for workers and for patients.

And again, we see ever so clearly that those with strong right-wing views are guided primarily by how much money they can personally amass. Why would anyone want them near to power, unless they have the same mentality?

Tell you what, I am just a little bit sick & tired of the fact that the day-to-day whims of a complete idiot & maniac in the States dictates how much poorer literally ALL THE REST OF US are going to be. Fuck Trump & US hegemony. The UK needs independence! @ukstoptrump.bsky.social

I always look forward to funerals too. Good times.
