Ferguson was really an eye opener for me. I was watching live streams on Twitter seeing multiple people from multiple angles document something in real time and then in the news the next day it would say the complete opposite of what I saw. truly rewrote my lifelong neural pathways

My uncle-in-law is there I'm traveling and couldn't find one on my route, but I've spread info

Despite the terrorist assassination this morning, there are thousands of people on the Minnesota State Capitol lawn to demand no kings, no oligarchs, and no ICE. #NoKings #50501 #Minnesota #Indivisible

In 2019 I made a big Twitter thread defending one of my study species (Brown-headed Cowbirds) that ultimately spawned a seminar series. I just recorded an updated version, so if you need an interesting politics-free distraction, check it out! #birds www.youtube.com/watch?v=6l4p...

Every year I read Marvel Pride with a huge smile and tears streaming down my face. The representation alone is meaningful but these are queer stories being told by queer artists starring queer superheroes. And this cover celebrating trans Marvel characters is something I never thought possible. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

If anyone knows any good books on queer Canadian history (especially PEI and Nova Scotia) I am looking for recommendations! I am heading over there soon and it would be great to know some more about the local history. -Alice

I’ve seen a lot of hand wringing about the dangers of going to No Kings protests and gently, I want to tell people to chill a little. These are permitted marches and the point is to be out there and seen en masse. Please don’t scare off people who are maybe going to their very first protest

Pollinator Week is right around the corner! Come learn about your local ecosystem's hard-working pollinators by checking out our newest pop-up exhibit dedicated to the birds, bees, and creatures in between that help pollinate our natural world. 🌷🐝

in case you missed it, here is the clip floating around lol

‘I asked chat gpt’ ‘I asked grok’ ok well I asked a group of autistic people assuming one of them would have it in their special interest

In case you weren't aware, the greater LA metropolitan area is the size of Portugal and contains 80% more people. They cannot constitutionally do this, but also, they cannot physically do this.

If you’re going to the No Kings protest in Nassau County, be aware they have a mask ban (including respirators). The “medical exemption” is 100% police discretion. You have to prove you’re “sick enough” to mask. Mask bans are the result of people refusing to help disabled folks normalize masking

Tiny part.

On this Friday the 13th, you can avoid this! Bluesky has a setting that will remind you to add alt text before posting any images. Go to "Settings," then "Accessibility." Select the checkbox for "Require alt text before posting."

Showed up to my delivery job in an n95, boss is only "are you sick? Should you go home?" Feeling the love on that front, plus the mask was super effective against the smoke on the air!

I don't think there's any way to avoid feeling really shitty right now if you're paying attention, but there are little daily things you can train yourself to do, to try to keep yourself from burning out and losing function. Here's my tips, find some for you! www.skwinnicki.com/single-post/...

My town of<10000 is having a "no kings" march on Saturday. I won't be around unfortunately, but the last public protest we had was a scary number of trucks interrupting a city council meeting just after Jan 6

a fairly deeply held belief of mine is that Americans want immigration to work the way they think it already does: you can get in legally if you’re patient on a reasonable timescale, and if you’re here long enough to put down community roots you shouldn’t get kicked out regardless

“Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents will also be at the [FIFA Club World Cup] games. ICE told us they would be there as part of the security team, but they also included a reminder that all non-American citizens need to carry proof of their legal status.”

inaturalist•org Update on June 11, 2025 9:15pm EDT “We are not giving Google special access to your iNat data, and we have no obligation to use Google's infrastructure…If the demo… is not helpful, compromises data quality, has outsized environmental impacts, or is … too flawed, we will not keep it.”

I'd have put the update at the top, but whatev. This isn't enough for some folks but it's better than I've heard from anywhere else that's implementing AI that doesn't need it I'm conditionally ok with it

When I heard the mom of a trans girl say the night her daughter came out to her was the first time she'd ever seen her child happy, I knew it was a story I needed to share. These are the stories the public isn't hearing. An honor to get to report on 3 family's journeys for @teenvogue.com.

ea nasir is back baby awooo

-getting into the bath -getting out of the bath -changing clothes -strapping in to the car seat -every step in getting necessary surgery but that seems too obvious I mean I hated it, especially the surgery stuff, but that's part of being a parent

Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice is a group of interfaith leaders and community members that support local workers. They have created a bond fund for detained immigrants and their families in Los Angeles. secure.qgiv.com/for/2025immi...

The right to leave your place of residence is in the Treaty of Westphalia. It's the first civil right explicitly granted to Germans.

The Lord of the Rings films are older than ICE. The Matrix is older than ICE. Legally Blonde is older than ICE. We're not talking about a venerable American institution. We're talking about post-9/11 Patriot Act overreach. Claw that power back. Destroy ICE.

Not true. I see you're a luxury watch dealer. I'm also interested in watches. Let me show you how free and easy migration has allowed you to earn a living. 🧵

Fun thread, but every time I'm reminded of this fact it boggles my mind. Almost all my ancestors arrived in the US before there were *any* immigration laws

I ran a forklift into a roof support once, but I didn't run over any of the maze of things I was trying to pick my way thru 🤦‍♂️ It was shortly after the tornado and nobody was at their best
