🏳️‍⚧️ new research confirms, with 🇦🇺’s largest dataset of trans & gender diverse youth, that even just being supportive of trans young people’s hopes to affirm their gender helps their mental health. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Just tripped and whacked myself in the face with the weed eater AMA

the first episode of mobile suit gundam 1979 is an ode to the power of strong technical writing

oh look it’s the thing everyone said wouldn’t happen and hadn’t happened, happening

Can’t believe the right got poly sex cults weirdly obsessed with rocketry in the national divorce. Really thought we had that one in the bag.

ran into one of my favorite baristas again while shopping the other night, found out where they're working now, and have been checking it out regularly to try and catch their schedule since 😅 i lost track of where they were after a string of closures

the lil crossing flags at crosswalks dont make drivers yield so I propose every crosswalk have several mechs with a revolver cannon on one arm and a small caliber high rate of fire gatling on the other so pedestrians can use them to cross with impunity

Absolutely surreal to have lived through the Napster days and watched as the titans of industry moved hell and high water to lock down any possible chance that someone's song might get swapped online without giving the studios a cut and now those same people are just like "well we gotta steal music"

When I'm sad, which is NEVER btw, I simply go into a state of complete denial

"em dashes are a sign that something was written by AI" you are simply jealous that i've memorized that I can hold alt and press 0151 on the numpad to produce an em dash whenever i desire. look: —. it's beautiful. i'll even do it again: —

This is the thing that almost bothers me the most. The most basic and obvious metrics don't fucking work, why on earth I should believe any of these companies are even a century away from AGI is beyond me

Regardless of how people feel about the decision to reallocate a proposed $2 million police budget increase to parks, can’t we just agree on what “defunding” means? The police budget will remain static. If language has meaning, that’s not what “defund” means.

Newsletter: We are in the era of the Business Idiot, where middle management has seized power, breeding out true meritocracy and value-creation in favor of symbolic growth and superficial intelligence. This piece ties together everything I've ever written. www.wheresyoured.at/the-era-of-t...

something something don't speak ill of the dead but with Connolly passing that's 3 dems who've died in office this year and i think it's long last time we have a major reckoning with political age limits and the "lifer politician"

(I don't love how often Doc Rivers is the best response to 99.9% of political news these days.)

The Black Dragon has been quested! This was a donation incentive you all donated for. There are many more donation incentives to reach, including Final Fantasy XII's incentives for running the game on New Game Minus, low level. Donate at rpglimitbreak.com/donate #RPGLB2025

What I find fascinating is how I’ve been terminally online since I was a teen, and me and my other friends came out of Covid mostly okay. My uncle, on the other hand, now believes that Hillary Clinton made AIDS airborne because of something he read on Facebook.

>"So wait, you're telling me the most efficient way to run the social safety net is to just give it to everybody and tax it back from the ones that don't need it?" Unironically, yes.

people say bluesky isn't doing anything new or interesting but that's not quite true: this site has developed the first new way to get mad at the onion in 30 years

Company: good news we updated our software!!! Company: we changed the interface!!! Also, the core features no longer function!!!

when we remind everything they’re weird little freaks it works!!!!

Gundam Fans watching Gquacks are clapping and gasping and leaning over you to say "That's Bulk Grumman!" and when you're like oh cool he just likes like some random old dude, is he good, they say "oh no, definitely not" and start listing all the war crimes he committed.

so is the us military bribing the sea by dropping planes in it

they killed Aaron Swartz over less than what DOGE is trying to do with the Library of Congress

yeah i got no issue with people whose job involves the use of machine learning tools for a number of technical tasks but anyone using AI to automate human communication or creativity is just instantly less of a person to me

"Employees who turn in dog shit work face judgement from people actually working"

I honestly think a big turning point was Bitcoin, where.... I understood what Bitcoin was. I understood why it wasn't useful as a currency, I understood why it wasn't useful as an investment, I didn't buy Bitcoin. And I sat in rooms with people who didn't understand what it was, who bought it

I have written extensively about what AI is good for (mostly, automating low level stuff we are all glad to have automated) and what is bad about it (lots…) and this sums it up nicely.

hey everyone

Because now we get chronic conditions instead of DYING OUTRIGHT. This is actually fantastic! It means we get eczema and arthritis at 65 because we didn’t die in childbirth at 25!
