This is something I've noticed over the last year or so, that biking is now deemed "woke" by the far right crowd. This article does a nice job of laying out way that may be.

Here's a step toward safer roads: thanks to legislation we helped pass with @rideillinois.bsky.social‬, the @illinoisdot.bsky.social‬ is now required to conduct a traffic study after people walking are killed by drivers at state road intersections. www.dailyherald.com/20250611/lif...

Help stop fascism in Chicago. Come out. Share.

A truly senseless tragedy occurred yesterday. A 12-year-old boy riding a bicycle has died after being struck by an intoxicated driver of a Dodge Charger on Sunday afternoon in Decatur 💔 www.wandtv.com/news/crime/1...

Uber has agreed to support state legislation that paves the way for drivers to unionize in a deal that scraps a city ordinance to raise driver pay. chicago.suntimes.com/city-hall/20...

Here's a guest op-ed by Ellen Steinke arguing that Uber and Local 150 – a powerful private construction union that benefits from road-building contracts – helped kill Illinois' transit funding and reform bill. chi.streetsblog.org/2025/06/13/u...

Now this is what I’m talking about. This is what a real desire to build a city committed to helping people move more easily and healthfully looks like.

Guest op-ed by Chicago-based writer Ellen Steinke: "Uber and the road construction lobby just killed Illinois’ transit funding bill, and your lawmakers let them." @chicagocta.bsky.social @ctaction.org @stevevance.net @mclean.bsky.social @atalliance.bsky.social @betterstreetschicago.org

It seems that these are not ready for the real world.

Love this!

This is insane.

Bi-partisan!

Here's a dose of reality, straight up, in a dirty glass.

Council Member Keith Powers will introduce a bill on Wednesday to lower the e-bike speed limit to 15 mph — but no one in power is talking about unsheathing the most effective street safety tool: the new-ish ability to lower car speed limits to 20 citywide. buff.ly/gbsBjjm

Motor vehicle violence at last night's peaceful protest in the Loop. I hope CPD investigates whether this person was lost and confused or was trying to deliberately cause chaos. chicago.suntimes.com/immigration/...

Pro immigration march on State Street right now. Peaceful.

Access to cycling is about more than a right to cycling alone: it's "the right to a safe route to work or school, the right to clean air, the right to physical activity, the right to equal access to public space." -Mieczysław Struk, Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship #vc25

Ha! Can you see me now?!

Today is the 3 year anniversary of Lily Shambrook’s death. She was the toddler killed after her and her family went around utility provider ComEd who was illegally obstructing the bike lane. Today a city of Chicago contractor is blocking the very same bike lane blockclubchicago.org/2023/01/17/p...

When a driver does this sort of thing it feels personal. Hard to claim they didn't know it was a bike lane when its painted bright green and has delineators. This always feels like a driver protesting the gall of people biking. What a jagoff!

New York is cracking down on the “danger” of ebikes, while the auto industry casually unleashes 1,000-horsepower machines onto public roads and streets, no questions asked.

"Cooler heads know cars and trucks are the real threat to life and limb for pedestrians and cyclists. Wide bike lanes and workplace safety rules for delivery apps are the way to go," said Danny Pearlstein of Riders Alliance.

LET’S GO TO THE BEACH ☀️⛱️🌊 Saturday, June 7th. •meet up at Blackstone Bicycle Works (behind the 61st St Farmers Market) at noon •roll at 1 pm •ride ~10 miles with us to 63rd St Beach Don’t forget water, bike locks, towels, swimsuits, & sunscreen!

The speed at which cities can remove unauthorized safety infrastructure kind of betrays the claim that everything takes 36 months.

Maybe I'm just a grump, but for me the takeaway from this is that 1. Cycling is very dangerous, and 2. Riding far is for highly motivated people. In other words, biking is not for "regular people." Not a good message. I like what Ride IL's Christine Hubert said though, "Just Ride."

It's time.

IMMEDIATE SUPPORT is needed in the South Loop, at the ISAP office at 23rd & Michigan, where folks were summoned for previously unscheduled program check-ins today to find ICE agents waiting to detain them without warning:

You can tell Paris’s streets were car-centric until very recently, but their leaders understand something @mayorofchicago.bsky.social & @govpritzker.illinois.gov need to get as well: the sustainable growth of global cities like Chicago is impossible by car, it needs to be on 🚴🏽🚊🚌🚶🏼‍♀️

WBEZ: Ride Illinois and Pullman National Historical Park volunteers offer suggestions for "Great bike rides around Chicagoland." www.wbez.org/reset-with-s... @rideillinois.bsky.social

This is bad, to put it mildly. Ride your bike, but in Chicago you will likely have to do it with more cars on the road, with fewer people able to rely on public transit. This makes safe bike infrastructure even more critical.

It's Wold Bicycle Day! World Health Organization (WHO) actively promotes cycling for its myriad benefits to health and the environment, including increasing physical activity, reducing noncommunicable diseases such as cancer and diabetes, and decreasing air and noise pollution 👏👏👏
