The hope kills

Also, Becher is surprisingly not good as a target forward. He can make runs behind, but he is way worse at winning the ball when we just send it long than Klauss. Coming into this season I thought he had the game where you could just lump it up to him, but that hasn't been the case so far. (2/2)

Did we watch the same game?!?

Can we revisit the 51st state idea JUST for the first 10 days of June 2025? And then after that bury it and never speak of it again

It's so sad that I saw that pop up on my TL and thought "Oh yeah. I forgot Team of the Week was a thing" because it had been so long since anyone from City has made it.

Klauss was GASSED when he came off. Got over by the bench and crouched down to recover with both trainers checking on him

They definitely will make one of the stockiest attacks in the league.

Is the presumption that fee+salary=DP and the league won't let us switch the 2-4-GAM model to the 3-3 model which you have to declare at the start of the season despite the transfer deadline being 2 months later until this summer? Not sure i wanted Jensen on a DP deal, but dumb by MLS if that's why

It's his hand and he's a goalkeeper... DO NOT RUSH THIS!
comment in response to post
The real question is, should this be the rule? Are there any scenarios where the ball touching a defender shouldn't reset offsides? Maybe in pure deflections where there is no deliberate attempt on the ball, but I think if it's deliberate it should be live

Nancy ball good

Now picture this... Starting 5 CBs at home against this team and bringing on a 6th as a striker pushing for a goal in the dying minutes... Woof

On the players
comment in response to post
Which is why I'm fully expecting the new manager bounce 😬. Do you think we Olof can work Baumgartl and Wentzel into the starting lineup with other 5 CBs? I think it's almost worth it just for the hilarity of the bit.

Frustrated? Yes. Fed up? Not quite yet. It's a small sample size right now. Have the lineups and tactics been confusing and infuriating so far? Yes. Is there stuff from training and team selection that we don't know? Probably. But if the next 10-15 games look like this, definitely will be fed up.

Why 5 CBs???

If I could take any player in MLS to add to this current City team Kelvin Yeboah might make the top 5

Ummm... What's up with the ridiculous difference in possession stats between MLS and FotMob? Used to MLS pumping up their xG stats, but didn't remember seeing any difference like this
comment in response to post
The long balls should have been abandoned (except for clearances) 5 minutes in when it became clear you couldn't actually trust where it was going... And we don't have someone actually good in the air up top
comment in response to post
... But he's also right. Fully prepared for Hiebert at RWB with Baumgartl or Yaro in the back 3

The first one being basically a complete circle seems like something you want out of a starting attacking group 🤷 #KlaussTruther
comment in response to post
Right, that's what will allow him to be TAM, because he's been at ~1.3M on salary. So, without that $4M transfer fee split over the 1st 3 years we're good so long that option isn't a huge salary bump.
comment in response to post
...and presuming his option year doesn't have a massive salary bump, he would finally be able to shed the "DP9" moniker which colors his valuation right now. We have a long season to see if he's worth the option, but assessing his value becomes more straightforward if that happens.
comment in response to post
That's fair and I'll be curious to hear your analysis. I didn't like it because we lost our "pressure release valve" up top (those 15ish minutes felt a lot like SD) but also you didn't just add a CB, you moved two others to different places on the field and that also destabilized things in that time
comment in response to post
The end result was good but I'd argue that it the Yaro for Klauss change was a bad decision that they're lucky it didn't bite them. Pec should've scored and we lost our outlet up top when we got possession to hold and progress the ball resulting in basically no sustained possession for 10-15 minutes

I love having Kyle on the team and appreciate his tenaciousness... Buuuuuuuuut... Baumgartl or Nilsson can't get in the starting lineup soon enough if we're playing the ball out of the back

This might be the week they stay out west with a Sunday night game against LAFC followed up by a game on Saturday in Seattle.

We all thought it was weird

Short bench has me guessing that a couple guys (Ostrak & Zalinsky?) might have caught Baumgartl's illness
comment in response to post
Watts did play great last night. Hopefully he can keep it up while we're thin on depth there
comment in response to post
"that leads to goals" is the key thing you said and probably why it's worth it if he wants to come. That said, before we signed Morales I think we would've been better off going after a D-MID in that price range who could be a destroyer in midfield and is 1-2 levels above what Durkin was last year
comment in response to post
Two thoughts, first wasn't playing on east coast a big thing for him? Second, in a vacuum I like adding him, but realistically is he that much of an upgrade over Totland (maybe a downgrade defensively?) to justify the price? I like the idea of adding a player of that quality, just unsure of the fit
