The US is not interested in defeating Russia. It is certainly not interested in helping Ukraine - unless it makes their president look good.
In fact America would prefer to help Russia achieve a quick victory so they can make trade deals and help Russia destroy the world faster.

No he can't. Ukraine's and Russia's delegates need to meet, America can send a qualified envoy to mediate if they like, but it really has nothing to do with Trump. America is a supplier of materiel, not a participant.
