You are quite correct. I work in men’s custom suiting. It really has all just become personal preference. I like Derek’s historical info, but it really has no bearing at this point. You are seeing looks from 5 different decades currently. It’s SO MUCH FUN. Women’s suiting is the same!

Don’t know if one looks “better.” The smaller, asymmetrical knot gives a more casual appearance, while the larger knot a dressier look. I prefer the double four-in-hand for its asymmetry. I hate trying to look too perfect. Also never care about tail length (a bit longer than the front).
