Murc's Law—“in American politics, only Democrats are assumed to have agency. Republicans …do what they do because that’s just what they are, so there’s no point in holding them responsible for anything, since they could not do ottherwise.”

“Your argument is that Democrats have no agency, only Republicans.”
JFC, dude?! NO, NO, NO!!!
EVERYONE HAS AGENCY FOR THEIR OWN ACTIONS!!! (Here’s a clue: Who’s direct actions are leading us into Fascism?!)

Dems are a big tent party with a wide spectrum of people and coalitions that don’t speak as one. Instead of blaming repubs/trump for their actions you’re picking one fraction of the dem party actions/no actions to blame. PUT THE BLAME/AGENCY ON THE PERPS/REPUBS!!!

OK, so just blame repubs for what they are doing and leave the dems out of it!

No really, there’s a specific term for this way of thinking, “Dems are the only ones with agency” (I can’t recall the term). But you are also doing it RIGHT NOW! Always blaming the Dems for Repubs misdeeds. Look, the Dems are far from perfect but it’s the Repubs/trump admin. abusing ICE’s role…

What is the political term that explains this way of thinking?! “Both the media and median voters treat the Democratic Party as if it were the only political party to have agency.”

NO,NO,NO…flat burgers are always overcooked! You need thick burgers to have them cooked medium-rare (the correct temperature)!

what’s more american than hotdogs at the ballpark? i guess you never heard of bunting (umm, more strategy!)…i’ll tell you what let’s get rid of the DH bc the game and this debate is sooo much more interesting than a DH’s 1 hit of the game in the 2nd inning!

counterpoint: baseball is a game of failure and the strategy around batters’ failures. pitchers batting add more strategy esp. late in games (eg. strategy of when to pinch hit for pitchers pitching well). are you really adding much more when the DH averages barely over 1 hit per game?!

When Trump is gone and Trumpism subsides at least partly - history will speak to the cult, the gaslighting, the embrace of the most flawed leader EVER, and the obvious con. But the real disaster that threatened the American experiment will have been our media's widespread normalization of a madman.
