I saw an interview with the person at Rivian who handles their autonomy sensor stack. It's all about sensor fusion. Five radars. Ultra-sonics and a pile of cameras. Lidar? If they can get the cost low enough then probably but not now.
What was notable? No grandiose claims or absolutes.

On older hardware they have to disable redundancy because the model won't fit on a single compute node. They need both to kinda, sorta work. But you lose the safety margin granted by having multiple systems that must be in agreement.

My Model S had "FSD." The magnitude of the suck was shocking. Apparently the suck is less on the latest hardware, but that doesn't stop Tesla from deploying to older hardware.
