Sure, that's the crux of it - you need a POLITICAL plan to sort the infra. UK never had that properly. So you then have companies trying to run too many trains on congested infra instead.
But do it wrong (like France) and you have the danger the new infra kills the rest.

Oh, and the operator is nationalised LNER for those who don't know. So government is setting these fares.
Nationalisation is barely one step along the road to a better railway - so much more needs to happen, including investing in high speed rail.

For those south of the border and unaware, this is an entirely realistic policy proposal. Scotland trialled it and ridership increased by nearly 10%. They're making it permanent later this year:
