Trump's tariff drama: ✅ April 2: “I want tariffs!” ➡️ Wall Street melts down ❌ April 9: “Just kidding, I want leverage!” 🤡 Day 62 of 90: Zero deals, zero strategy, zero credibility. My fear is that when we hit Day 90 we're back to punishingly high and incoherent tariffs.

President Trump on World War I: "Recently other countries celebrated the victory of World War I, France was celebrating, really. The only one that doesn't celebrate is the U.S.A.And we're the ones that won the war.Without us,you'd all be speaking German right now.Maybe a little Japanese thrown in."

What I cannot work out is *why* Labour thinks saying "It was right to cut Winter Fuel Allowance last year and it's right to reinstate it this year because circumstances changed so much" Is better than "We listened to you, we got it wrong, we've fixed it, and we're sorry".

He must be protected at all costs.

Hypocrisy. Leave it to Leavitt.

I like this Gavin more than podcast Gavin.

Trump’s climate denial may help a livestock-killing pest make a comeback. Climate change could be helping the flesh-eating screwworm fly spread, undoing decades of progress — and the USDA isn’t doing anything about it. grist.org/food-and-agr... #Flies #Climate #Livestock #Environment #Food #USDA

CNN’s Jason Carroll was zip-tied and escorted away—for reporting the news. But they claimed he wasn’t under arrest? Why are they shooting rubber bullets at and silencing journalists? We still have a First Amendment.

If you don’t think Reform are being directly aided and abetted by the British press, then ask yourself this: why has a question asked by a Reform MP at PMQs, about banning the burka, been front and centre in discussions on the BBC, LBC and Sky News for over a week?

More people should be talking about the utter freak that is Stephen Miller and his white nationalist worldview. He's the architect behind most of this chaos as Trump is golfing, falling asleep during meetings, making money of memecoins and tripping while climbing stairs.

Trump, offering no evidence, "These are paid insurrectionists, these are paid troublemakers, they get money". truthsocial.com/@realDonaldT...

ok cool which groups and identity blocks (sic) should be excluded from the first amendment ? I’ll get a google doc going, you call Harper’s

Every so often I remember that interest rates were below 1% for 12 years. I realise this is not "news". Nor is it news that, during that decade-plus, we failed to use the potential of dirt-cheap borrowing to invest in infrastructure projects that we belatedly realised we desperately needed. Hmph.

Sen. Kevin Cramer on raising the federal minimum wage, which is currently $7.25: "I don't even know why we have a 'federal minimum wage' to be honest ... I think the market works really well ... I just think manipulating markets with mandatory wages doesn't make any sense."

The UK sanctions on Israel's finance minister specify that they are imposed “in his personal capacity.“ Presumably this means UK investors can still chat to him in his professional capacity about dealing in Israel bonds? www.gov.uk/government/n...

The US no longer wholeheartedly endorses an independent state for Palestinians, Washington’s ambassador to Israel said, adding that if one were to be formed it could be elsewhere in the region rather than the West Bank

Brand-new polling from YouGov out this AM finds Trump's actions re: LA underwater. Double-digit disapproval on sending in Marines. This should be a reality check for those people arguing the protests inherently help Trump bc his immigration approval # is positive. today.yougov.com/topics/polit...

Zelenskyy: “Hungarian intelligence attempted to gather information on the location of Ukraine's air defence systems and military units within Ukrainian territory… “I asked NATO officials if they requested this intelligence from the Hungarians, and they replied, 'We did not.'”

Something has happened in the months since January that has led the World Bank to dramatically lower its economic growth forecasts. And whatever it is, it's hurting the United States more than any other major economy. (China remains unscathed.)

Whether it's Obama wearing a tan suit to a press conference or Trump using the military to attack American citizens, both presidents crossed some dangerous red lines for democracy.

if any crave redress of injustice, they should exhibit their petitions in the street

If you think climate change has gotten worse during your lifetime, you're right and there's a good reason. If you're Gen X like me, more than 3/4 of fossil fuel CO₂ emissions have occurred in your lifetime. Even if you're a Millennial, it's at least half. 📊: @neilrkaye.bsky.social

Jeffries: "We will not be lectured by Donald Trump and anyone in the Republican Party about issues of law and order ... he pardoned hundreds of violent felons, criminals, who brutally assaulted police officers and attacked the Capitol on January 6. That's what Donald Trump did on day one."

Reform’s “DOGE” is a superficial response to deep problems in local government Copying the Elon Musk model is no way to find savings in local government, say @stuarthoddinott.bsky.social and @alexgathomas.bsky.social www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/comment/doge...

'When nearly half of people are so financially fragile that they are living in fear of a £100 bill, something has gone very wrong'

I often see people reposting a paraphrase of the “Nuremberg defense.” The paraphrase is that “I was following orders” is not a defense. To be clear, this “defense” only fails for patently unlawful orders. It is not relevant in 99.9% of cases. Actions of most employees will not be patently unlawful.
