šŸ¤” Can I come work for you? That would be the absolute best change of scenery I could possibly think of.

I just happen to be working for a company that is under a venture capitalist structure that demands fast delivery to product, and have those types of pressures put onto a design system.

I want to follow up here: I absolutely believe that StyleX is the best CSS framework out there. What is will save you in the future through its careful and deliberate structure and approach is monumental compared to the time it takes to configure it. Next is dead simple to set up, for example…
comment in response to post
But actually most my teams use Next. I’m still poking at it though. My biggest issue is that I am trying to build my company’s design system library using StyleX, but getting pressure from product that it’s not easy enough to set up. It’s unreasonable, I know, but still something I deal with.
comment in response to post
I’m happy for any work on StyleX that makes setting up easier. To that point, is there a reason to focus on Vite plugin and not the CLI? The CLI seems like your (albeit temporary?) magic bullet to resolve ā€œinstallation and setupā€ woes. I’m in that ā€œset up a Vite templateā€ discussion on GitHub…

Anyways, thanks again for the library and also for dealing with me on the StyleX GitHub discussion board. Constantly bugging you there and you are very helpful.

I would agree though, that the only grief I still have to manage from teams using my DS is the implementation and configuration into their applications.
comment in response to post
I can easily spout off all the reasons why I made my choice, and how, after using it, I have come to realize how it guides you to use best practices. Additionally, it constantly saves you from dealing with many issues. But you won’t know it because you’re not dealing with them.

I have been using StyleX in my design system for over a year now. I sweated and labored over the choice of what CSS framework I was going to choose for not only my DS, but essentially for any new greenfield work that would be using it to build. Over this year I have become very happy with my choice

On the documentation site for RAC I mean.

When you scroll to the bottom of the search ListBox, when you reach the bottom it auto closes. Just a tiny thing but drives me nuts.

Assuming this isn’t bad news for StyleX? šŸ¤ž

May I ask why? Personal or requirement?

The Adam Family Home Computer over here, if you remember that one. Used carriages and tape cassette.

Time for retro yet?

I feel like we’re so close to a multiselect. Which, honestly, I’m expecting because I just finished building one with React Aria Components. But I’m very excited to see how you solve the issue.

Gah. paid = pairs

It paid nicely too with StyleX’s mental model

šŸ”„ šŸ”„ šŸ”„ And yet so many of us are going to be expected or demanded to implement this because it will satisfy our stakeholders / CEOs who believe if we don’t have one it is a sign of failure to keep up.

Pretty telling. You’d think they’d want to be here. And I’m not talking left right politics, I’m talking about a social media platform free from the controls of a single person.
comment in response to post
I am not defending the use of it for terrible stupid dumb dumb idiot MAGA memes. I guess I’m really just trying to bring this conversation back to the original point of the podcast: Congress has lost its sense of self and acquiesced to Trump.
comment in response to post
I wish you the best and truly believe you are trying to fight for the right reasons.
comment in response to post
But as far as I understand it that is not the case.
comment in response to post
It was akin to Orwell’s comparison of people to sheep in Animal Farm. Over the years, countless variations of the meme have existed. If popular culture has redefined its meaning, and most now see it as dehumanizing, then I apologize.
comment in response to post
That’s why I avoid these platforms; they often become ā€œrage cages,ā€ with people assuming the worst in each other. So, one last time before I step away: The ā€œNPCā€ meme, in its original form, wasn’t about dehumanizing anyone.
comment in response to post
I do. Of course I do. And I believe you do too. I believe most everyone does, Assuming otherwise fosters negativity. To address me as if I don’t is to assume the worst of me.
comment in response to post
Perhaps. You mention it being a slur. And dehumanizing. I am unaware of this specific use of the NPC meme. It’s been around for a long time and has hundreds of variations. Perhaps Ezra is unaware as well? He seems to be referring to it as described in this wiki. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/NPC_(me...

I listened to the whole podcast. I think this is taking something out of context. There’s more in there. Just my 2 cents.

Fantastic!

Well I’m gonna park a comment here so I can watch this space and see what people may suggest. You can use the hashtag designsystems, but I find that a bit too noisy with everyone pitching their videos. I know there are good people to follow here, and I should make a list. Will share when I do.

Ohh nice. Although I’m expecting your answer to MultiSelect to drop any day because I just finished making one with RAC.

Legislation is difficult and slow and real strength. A president is supposed to build a coalitions to bring about real change. But we haven’t had that in, I don’t know, almost my whole life. Every election is 50/50 now
comment in response to post
A president sets agendas. They are the one who are supposed to build coalitions, and they do so to pass lasting legislation, real laws. Executive orders are the flexing of a weak man. This is not power. It is not hard work. It doesn’t last, it can be wiped away as easily as it was made.
comment in response to post
A president is not the voice of the country: they are the voice of the people who voted him in, yes. But they are still responsible for the rest of the country. Congress should be the voice of the country.
comment in response to post
Now, I don’t propose extending the olive branch to tRump. This is the example of bad choices manifesting themselves. Also, it isn’t (generally) the job of the minority party to build a coalition. That’s what a president is supposed to do.
comment in response to post
I think you can have a discussion here. But it’s possible for everyone to choose where they draw their lines. That’s all well and good. I like that. However, as a result of our politicians having given up on building coalitions, we have become a 50/50 nation, dug in to ā€œour sideā€.

Here’s a random thought: AI is happening at a time when tech industry’s worst habits are being temporarily encouraged by a form of leadership which is badly informed by a very short period of poorly defined example of success. (This is an unfinished thought)
