Can't be having those meddlesome Europeans interfering in our sphere of influence.

Germany's electoral system proved resilient against AfD, despite Musk's interefrence.

TBH, your focus on Musk comes across as avoiding the unconfortable truth that many Americans truly were dumb enough to vote for Trump in the first place. I don't think Musk needed too much effort to push the election in Trump's favour.

I'd argue that FTPT is much less robust than systems like Proportional Representation with multi-seat constituencies. Hence easier for Musk and his ilk to rig.
I'd also argue that prime ministerial systems are superior to presidential systems but that's another topic for another time.

A broken electoral system. "First past the post" delivers large majorities to parties which frequently do not even achieve a plurality. This is a problem in both the US and the UK.

It needs to be made and repeated until such time as satire resumes it's status of being more absurd than reality. But that's an impossibly high bar nowadays.

Not the target - yet. These events escalate.

Forget about anything the USA says. They are now an active ally of Russia and Putin. Ukraine needs to forget Trump and heavily lobby Europe, because European leaders still think the US will reverse it's current position. It ain't going to happen.

Because BBC News is now run by the extreme right, shaping partisan content to sound neutral.

I predict a Tianamen Square moment in the US when Trump deploys the tanks.

My guess is that Russia is preparing an Article 5 violation in the UK to test both UK and NATO resolve. Bugger all happened after the Novichock attack in Salisbury, so I expect that when push comes to shove, the UK is weak, and if NATO is not weak, the US will block any meaningful response.

I actually had to pause for a moment to figure out is it the nation Georgia, or the US state? It's so hard to tell now.

The One O'Clock News was pretty much a party political broadcast for Reform. Farage, not Badenoch now seems to lead the opposition in the BBC's eyes. Remarkable considering the share of votes at the last GE.

It the tories/far right is determined to leave the EHCR it's interesting to see how they'd attempt to deal with the unionists (who would of course endorse leaving the ECHR).

The unspoken option is that Northern Ireland leaves the jurisdiction of the UK and Ireland reunites. Given UK politics and its current trajectory, that would be a lucky escape.

To be fair, the Brits are on track to elect Farage which would be an equally idiotic move. Stupidity is not an exclusive resource.

Oh, don't worry, when Trump is gone they'll find another idiot to elect. The Americans really are that dumb.

I've seen Kelin interviewed a number of times. It's always surreal, crazy stuff. It amazes me even he can come out with what he says and keep a straight face.

Corruption? Embezzling the funds intended for maintenance? Poor quality cheaper materials, difference paid to corrupt generals? Etc, etc.

True, but Trump leads a cult. Vance does not. His popularity and credibility will vanish like mist in the morning, he will be unable to hold a government together. The facade will collapse.

I'm confused, do you mean the US or Russia? I'd put the US as the dumbest.

I'm struck by the total lack of imagination, to the extent that they just copy foreign bigots instead of inventing some new bigotry of their own.

I gave up at that point. The conversation had been mostly trying to rebut Kremlin lines, to no avail. Another odd thing I've noticed in certain quarters is the presumption that if you're supportive of Ukraine, you must also support Israel against Gaza. Probably also a Kremlin line TBH

I once had someone explain to me once how Ukraine implementing a law requiring the use of Ukranian in official documents would lead to Russian becoming a dead language. He was an Irish speaker! Go figure.

Starmer has just repeated the idea of aligning with the US, not Europe, as a first defence partner. Has he lost his mind?
