"Our America is getting harder to recognize each and every day," Littlefield said, as Margaret Atwood's 40-year-old novel "becomes closer to reality." He added: "Our message this year, in hopefully a compelling dramatic way, continues to be — like June, don’t give up the fight."

"We're on a very, very slippery slope toward Gilead," executive producer Warren Littlefield told me back in 2019. I checked back in with Littlefield this week, and he perceives that the slope is even more treacherous today...

"The Handmaid's Tale" didn't meaningfully suffer in this polarized media climate. Instead, it benefited — because it evoked meaningful emotions and was elevated by current events. "Handmaid's Tale" had something to say, and a unique time to say it, and isn't that every artist wants?

Trump's election certainly changed how the show was received. And the producers leaned in. They didn't hesitate when asked about real-world comparisons to the radicalism portrayed on screen. Maybe the political overtones turned off some would-be viewers. But...

The acclaimed Hulu drama, which streamed its final episode yesterday, was unavoidably and unapologetically political. "Handmaid's" launched a few months into Trump's first term and now it has concluded a few months into Trump's second term...

"Anyone can make it through an adrenaline-filled breaking news day," Jamie wrote. "But can you wake up at 2:30 the next morning and the next morning... and you get it. 15 years. Let’s do it again tomorrow." 💪🏼 www.instagram.com/reel/DKM4q_e...

15 years of TV isn't built on the big moments. "It's the ordinary Tuesday when you're tired and pull it together anyway. It's the days the subways are running on time. It's the days after the big storm or crane collapse or major election when you pick up the pieces to make sense of it for the city."

my friendly advice: actually consume cnn content instead of social media commentary about cnn :-) this advice works well for all other media outlets too.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting already filed its own lawsuit against Trump's attempt to fire three of its board members. A ruling in that case is expected soon. PBS has also been preparing to take legal action but has not yet filed anything.

The lawsuit says Trump's order violates both "the expressed will of Congress and the First Amendment's bedrock guarantees of freedom of speech..." Moreover, it "threatens the existence of a public radio system that millions of Americans across the country rely on for vital news and information."

This holiday weekend announcement is part of a pattern. Since January, Hegseth and his Trump administration allies have taken numerous steps to stifle independent media. I outlined the changes here: www.cnn.com/2025/05/24/m...

Further restrictions are likely in the coming weeks, according to a Pentagon memo that alluded to a forthcoming pledge to protect military secrets and tougher scrutiny of press credentialing. And the memo is part of a pattern...

The sharp words from the Pentagon Press Association came after Hegseth announced access limitations "in the interest of national security." The changes make key parts of the Pentagon building off-limits to journalists unless they have an official escort.
