Apparently educating yourself about supply chains, trade and international relations, and explaining how they work to people is elitist. But spending your life reading opinion polls and devising strategies how to use them to your advantage to get into power makes you a man of the people.

Any Labour SpAd arguing for restricting student imm should be sat down in front of a map and asked three Qs: 1. Where do you think the unis in most financial trouble are? 2. How many people rely on them for jobs and income? 3. Which party represents these seats?

Add to that list that many/most of those white collar jobs were socially-focused in that they supported or promoted the infrastructure of society. However, people still assume that these people are there when, increasingly, they are either diminishing in number or too overwhelmed to function as was

2. There's the silly: after being mocked for setting tariffs to trade deficit / exports, the White House retorted that they didn't do that at all – they used this fancy formula. 

How convenient that the two fitted parameters, ε=4 and φ=0.25 multiply to 1, leaving...yes, trade deficit / exports.
