Are we able to ID this Xysticus spider to species? Could it be X. audax since it was seen at #RSPBArne? #Dorset 28/05/25 @britishspiders.bsky.social #Arachnid

Misumena vatia spider with dinner, seen 26/05/25 at #RingsteadBay, #Dorset @britishspiders.bsky.social #Arachnid

All done with the first round of ID for my dissertation, which makes 1,537 spiders in total with most to species where possible😩 notable finds include the one Mermessus trilobatus and 7 Panamomops sulcifrons. It's time to go through the second survey samples!🕷 @britishspiders.bsky.social

Yesterday's star find - a beautiful, pastel coloured, Thomisus onustus (Heather Crab Spider). She was sitting amongst the heather with her prey as the sun removed the last of the morning dew. #teammoth #dorsetwildlife @britishspiders.bsky.social #OMsystem #ukwildlife @dorsetwildlife.bsky.social

A Wolf Spider sp, resting on a Bog Bean leaf in the garden pond. @britishspiders.bsky.social @lincswildlife.bsky.social

Lots of information on the weird and wonderful habits of pseudoscorpions in our factsheet 8 at britishspiders.org.uk/factsheets

A really nice set of photos of Siler semiglaucus taken by Michał Górski in Sri Lanka & submitted to @inaturalist.bsky.social . This pretty & v active little jumping spider eats ants! (It’s not certain if all ‘Siler semiglaucus’ records refer to one species, btw.) www.inaturalist.org/observations...

One of the Wolf Spider species? @britishspiders.bsky.social #30DaysWild

Amazing views of this lovely Zebra Spider today with moth prey. @britishspiders.bsky.social

@britishspiders.bsky.social little crab spider hanging out on a leaf!

Dipogon spider-hunting wasp dragging a spider up the wall to its nest hole. This was in a concrete section of my garden bee/wasp hotel. #WaspLove #macro #photography

I wonder if any #spider folk here can confirm my suspicion that this is a recluse of some sort. If so, it's presumably Mediterranean Recluse as it was in Cyprus (on my neck, until I brushed it off - no harm to me or it). @britishspiders.bsky.social @cataranea.bsky.social

Now 4 years in a row that I've had one of these non-native "fleecy" jumping spiders, Pseudeuophrys lanigera, in my garden! Lifespan supposedly 1-3 years so maybe not the same one? When it disappeared from sight, I realised it might be hiding in this cable clip! @britishspiders.bsky.social

That makes 3 Panamomops sulcifrons females found on this site! 🥳🕷 @britishspiders.bsky.social

Segestria florentina by the back door. I can't recall getting two in one photo before. @britishspiders.bsky.social

Reasons not to mow (11): Mangora acalypha on unmown lawn today in Bengeo garden, woodland spider with very distinctive "cricket bat" pattern on its abdomen. @britishspiders.bsky.social

Garden wildlife. I've now got 4 Segestria florentinas, 3 on the house and one on the fence. The largest is the usual long staying one behind the front lamp, and the one on the fence was a new find last night, though I have previously seen one in this area. @britishspiders.bsky.social

Oh look at this beauty! So sorry I disturbed you when dismantling the front door surround… I’m hoping Noble False Widow, Steatoda nobilis…

Also nice to see a few other species in my garden recently that I don't often see elsewhere in Cornwall - Clubiona pallidula, Ero aphana and Parasteatoda simulans. Amazing the power that an unkempt garden can have for inverts! @britishspiders.bsky.social

Really great to see Entelecara acuminata in the garden again, I've not seen it for a while. It's quite incredible that I've never picked it up anywhere in the southwest outside of my garden. A true broadleaf garden shrub species! @britishspiders.bsky.social @graemelyons.bsky.social @cofnod.org.uk

Look who I found while out exploring today! There were three, yellow, female Misumena vatia in this area. Only this one had the added red stripes on the side of her abdomen 💛❤️💚. #spiders #arachnids #ukwildlife #dorsetwildlife #macrophotography #OMSystem

Wolf spider with her spiderlings ❤️ @britishspiders.bsky.social

Hi everyone, I am launching a community science scheme "Spider Spies" where we are asking you, to send us pictures and if you're keen and able samples of Misumena vatia, the Flower Crab Spider to investigate their interactions with their host flowers and the invertebrate community around them.

Bookings are going well so don’t miss out on the BENHS Harvestman workshop with Meg Skinner and her new test British key to ID them . . . To book: mail [email protected] providing a mobile contact number.

www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... The lab is delighted to release the first comparative analysis of the arachnid orders Opiliones and Solifugae, using chromosome-level genomes! We look at macrosynteny as a phylogenetic character for resolving chelicerate phylogeny.

Had a late night walk on Friday just as the rain was arriving for Bank Holiday.

Pholcus phalangioides or the Cellar Spider, commonly found in UK homes in the corner of ceilings. Although very common it's not a native to the UK and was first recorded in 1864. Look out for the females carrying their egg sac around😃. #UKWildlife #arachnids @britishspiders.bsky.social #Spiders

A small #Spider in SE #Cornwall, Mount Edgecumbe, today. Think #Nigma puella female - immature? - but grateful to @britishspiders.bsky.social for any correction. Will iRecord.

Flower Crab Spider (Misumena vatia) Waiting for its pray. @britishspiders.bsky.social #spiders

Who might know this spider please? @johnwalterswildife.bsky.social @devonshirenature.bsky.social

This little Sphagnum flush under a small patch of woodland in north Cornwall has given Maro minutus (pictured), Gongylidiellum murcidum and Porrhomma oblitum. All in the same sample!! Not bad for an unassuming wet patch! @britishspiders.bsky.social @cofnod.org.uk @graemelyons.bsky.social

#Saturdayspider. A lovely Wolf Spider with amazing markings. @britishspiders.bsky.social

I think this jumping spider is an Aelurillus v-insignitus. Spotted on a Surrey heathland near Camberley this morning. Tiny and jumpy! 🕷️ @britishspiders.bsky.social #spider #heathland

The newly-emerged spiderlings (not sure of species) outside the porch initially seemed to disperse over the web, but have now formed two separate balls. #spiders @britishspiders.bsky.social
