Another unserious and impractical approach to e-bikes from Eric Adams. You can't magically install speed governors on every e-bike in the city, so the only way this would be enforced is with the blunt force object that is the NYPD. That never works out well, as we've seen in recent weeks.

The NYPD and ICE mistakenly arrested a Chilean woman who is a permanent resident in New York City and left her poor frightened 12 year old daughter on the street alone. She was released approximately six hours later. This is the fearful state of America.

Fuck this

Her 12 yr old daughter screams and runs after him. Ambar wails in agony and collapses onto the sidewalk. As the SUVs pull away Ambar leans over a nearby fence sobbing, “My love, my love.” — via @gwynnefitz.bsky.social @fractenberg.bsky.social www.thecity.nyc/2025/06/04/i...

Seems like a mistake for no one to take the opportunity to break through the noise tonight. It would have been the biggest — and perhaps only — thing to come out of the debate and dominate the news cycle going into one of the last weekends before early voting begins.

this story is just a great illustration of NIMBY nihilism. at core, these people have no vision for anything. they simply oppose change for the sake of opposition. (i also think there is an element of death denial here — if i can prevent all physical changes i can deny the reality of my mortality)

Brad Lander and Adrienne Adams exist and are running! Cuomo's ahead right now not because there aren't "normal liberal" alternatives but because of a host of factors, many of them similar to the factors that helped Trump win last year.

I've been saying for a while that "Cuomo was on my teevee every day during the early COVID months" explains almost everything people think they like about Cuomo.

France, which is kicking New York's butt in terms of building transit and has powerful unions, would like a word with Mr. Barro.

Don’t discount how much mayor is a managerial job

It seems similar to how Trump's cognitive decline didn't cause the same apparent concern in the press as Biden's. People equate yelling with being tough and knowing how to get things done, never stopping to ask what, exactly, the person will get done. A lot of it just comes down to lazy analysis.

Why I think Brad would hit the ground (City Hall) sprinting vs Zohran - experience matters

"Congestion pricing is a rare example of the government taking a big swing on a complicated and highly controversial initiative and having it immediately pay off for constituents with benefits that are obvious to everyone."

So much of the discourse in city government is about the subway system, a massive public space with unique management concerns. How can you effectively lead on subway issues if you just never go there?

I'll probably rank her (last), but this is Cuomo-level bullshit maneuvering, what us peons are told is "wielding the levels of executive power": say you support a thing and do everything in your power to undermine that same thing

The billionaire mayor had to show he was in touch with regular New Yorkers so he made of point of taking the subway — even if it involved a drive on one end of his commute. Unfortunately, a lot of elected officials who aren't rich see ditching the subway as soon as they're able as a sign of success.

Also, I don't buy the "but we have unique security needs" argument that I'm sure Speaker Adams and other electeds use to justify taxpayer-funded cars and drivers. That doesn't mean they can't take the subway at least once a week. And we're not even getting into how none of them ever take the bus!

The last time the Speaker of the New York City Council took the subway was more than two months ago? I get that she used to take it regularly, but far too many of our elected officials get to a point where they become completely disconnected from the daily reality of the majority of New Yorkers.

Sure, Cuomo's bagel order is bad but you know what's worse? The fact that he resigned in disgrace after sexually harassing a dozen women, is still using taxpayer dollars to destroy them, and sent thousands of seniors to die in nursing homes during COVID and then covered it up.

Elon Musk's entire business empire is falling down around his ears. By all means, take this win... but the big win is bankrupting his ass, and let's definitely not call it a day before we get there!

Lets leave aside for the moment that "every other week" would itself be a hilariously low amount of subway use, its such an obvious lie that a little bit of pressing would make it more obvious. What line? Btwn which stations? How much does a subway fare currently cost? What can you use to pay?
