Wow, the word "adjustment" is doing A LOT of heavy lifting here.

I love me a good application of Cholesky decomposition "in the wild" ;)

I miss being unaware of how inexhaustible the supply of xenophobic fascist bootlickers with 0 empathy is in this country.
I mean, certainly better to be aware of the problem. I just am having a lot of trouble wrapping my head around how people grow to become this heartless.

Ah yeah, I admittedly forgot how crucial the stochasticity is for ensuring a convincing output! Sorry, reacted out of frustration with current LLM hype. I just think it's dubious to treat LLMS like reliable "thinking machines" given how opaque/unpredictable they are.

Because stochasticity is baked into these models. They're really just noisier autocomplete on steroids.
That's why I hate how much these things are getting implemented everywhere--they're so freaking unpredictable with regards to hallucinating facts.

If you burn down a forest, you don't miss out on lumber for just that season. You have to replant all the trees, nurture them, and wait for them to grow.
The science and research budget cuts happening now are wanton, senseless arson. Recovery, if it ever happens, will take generations.

Dangers of writing off the cuff--yes, some satellites do use lasers for data/power transmission IIRC. Was referring to the "death ray" type ideas some conspiracy theorists allude to 😂

Also, besides the point, but it continues to amaze me how little faith these folks have in science/scientists while also thinking we somehow have the tech to control weather, shoot lasers from space, and build/clone some kind of android beings? This feels very contradictory to me...
