Dear Mel, this is a favourite of mine. Time for another viewing methinks. ๐ you know how to pick em, so wonderful to see these actors throw on their classic characters. Laugh out loud. Nostalgia alive and well ๐

Even if iNat seems dispensable to you due to your abundance of local resources, it's the only thing people like me have.
They're now taking feedback from the community so this is our chance to steer them in a better direction.
I don't want the platform to die, I want it to do better.

I find it extraordinary that both the UK and the US have announced inquiries into #AUKUS and their ability to deliver it and the impact on their capability.
Yet Australia, the only nation that is paying doesnโt have an inquiry into this undeliverable, woefully governed expensive program.

What I don't understand is why genAI is relevant here. The type of ML you all already use is clearly high-value and thoughtfully deployed. Without question, I'd expect genAI to introduce error (amplifying common novice mistakes) while wasting resources and burning goodwill.

This is a terrible idea that will drive many (including myself) away from the platform. I would ask you to listen to your users and reconsider. GenAI at the very least is an unnecessary energy sink further threatening the organisms you seek to understand.

Certainly looks like it. It's a detail from a terrific painting by Richie Wastell (who I now owe beer).

But this is going to be yet another area where the taxonomists who did all the work to set up the species and the traits to identify them don't get paid. Even as many are retiring or losing their jobs, the resources get diverted away from expertise to the tech sector instead.
