One year ago today we had a convicted felon.

“The government knows their names. Their fingerprints have been scanned into government computers. The Department of Homeland Security knows where most of them live, because the immigrants in question — more than 500,000 of them — reside in the United States legally.”

🖕ICE❗️

Bypassing Smith. Sweet. “Carney, in his first visit to Calgary since being sworn in as prime minister, held a closed door roundtable with more than two dozen members of the energy sector.” #Ableg #Cdnpoli #Energy www.ctvnews.ca/politics/art...

DHS claims it was making sure people in Nadler’s office were okay. Yeah right. Barging into a congressman’s office and detaining a staff member for absolutely no legitimate reason is intimidation.

Get the sense that attack in Colorado was the work of a single individual and thus hard to prevent. But worth recalling how how many FBI have already been pulled off counterterrorism and other forms of crimes for immigrant round up duty.

Spread across a kitchen table, road maps fueled dreams of cross-country travel, unburdened by the reality of endless hours in an overstuffed vehicle. Those vacation planners are indebted to Rand McNally.

Russian media report an emergency meeting is underway in the Kremlin following Ukraine's massive drone strike on key strategic aviation airfields.

I bet Danielle Smith’s head spinning and speaking in tongues. She wasn’t invited and had no seat at the table! If Carney makes any deals directly with her, his starting point should be with the phrase “Absolutely no coal mining on or in the Eastern Slopes.” Full stop. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

I keep seeing people say Musk “failed” in his government takeover. No, he did not fail. He shut down investigations into his businesses, he garnered huge contracts, and he stole the personal data of everyone in the US. That’s not a “failure.” This motherfucker won, and won big.

Of course not. He just realized it was becoming bad for PR, plus investors at Tesla were mad at him.

Many others are posting abt this too but this graphic viscerally shows how dire the presidential budget is for NASA 🔭🧪and worldwide astronomy. I can’t express how sad this makes me, as an American scientist. And it’s mostly already paid for projects, so also no logic in terms of saving money.

one last post on international students -- public opinion is not in the administration's favor on this, and universities should not let them forget it

Since 1991, Russia hasn’t built new Tu-95 or Tu-22M3 bombers. A few were finished in the early 1990s, because production began in the Soviet era. Russia’s operational fleet of Tu-160, Tu-95MS, and Tu-22M3 totals around 70 - 90 aircraft. Losing even 10 would be a serious blow.

This kind of administrative sloppiness at ICE is *way* too common. Data entries are wrong, required procedures and welfare checks are skipped, and mistakes get made because corners are being cut. It’s happening even more with the White House screaming for ever-higher numbers.

I would like to live in Anthony Urso’s Winnipeg.

People of conscience should not permit this man to give an interview that isn't about the human cost of massacring USAID ever again.

The first SAR imagery of Belaya Airbase is now coming in, confirming reported losses. One analysed image, provided by Chris Biggers @csbiggers.bsky.social on the X, shows at least five bombers either destroyed or heavily damaged.

THE FUCKING RUSSIAN STRATEGIC BOMBER AIRBASE IS BURNING

On Ukraine successful attack on Russian air force: CBS: "The White House was not aware it was coming." Also @jenniferjjacobs.bsky.social: "US did not share intel with [Zelenskyy] and his team for Operation Spider's Web, admin sources tell me. Ukraine gathered its own information."

Your key takeaway from the brilliant Ukraine attack with small drones into Russia shouldn’t be “wow, small drones make it so easy to score huge hits,” it should be “wow, Ukrainians are insanely good at covertly planning and executing extraordinarily difficult missions of which drones are one part”.

Toxic to the rule of law, and yet another example of ICE/CBP deliberately *not* looking for all those supposed criminals, drug traffickers, terrorists, etc. They're going for literally the least dangerous, most law-abiding people they can find, the ones following every rule. The easiest targets.

For many of these people, the U.S. gov’t told them to wait to come in legally at an appointment. They did. Told them to submit applications for their work permits. They did. To show up for court. They did. Their reward? Being cuffed and thrown in jail until who knows when. It’s all unconscionable.

FOR THE LAST TIME, IT WAS NOT BUDANOV, IT WAS THIS DISTINGUISHED GENTLEMAN, HEAD OF SECURITY SERVICE

The time it took, the details, the planning, the logistics behind enemy lines (in some cases thousands of miles from friendly territory), the OpSec... this will be studied for years to come.

Ukraine could’ve launched the attack on civilian population centers, like Russia does to them daily. Instead, they chose a strictly military target - the very bombers being used to kill Ukrainian civilians. A brilliant operation solely designed to defend their own people.

“Trump and others have the power to change their opinions and tactics. But the best Europeans can do now is accelerate their efforts to arm Kyiv—and themselves.” www.foreignaffairs.com/ukraine/delu...

The isn’t even like Christmas, it’s better than Christmas cause on Christmas we were bombed from those aircrafts

Organizers of a veteran-led rally scheduled for June 6 in Washington say they expect about 20,000 people to turn out for a protest against plans by the VA for large staffing cuts and the elimination of hundreds of contracts for veterans services with community organizations.

“The listing also refers to individual municipalities — including Kingston, New Paltz, and the city of Poughkeepsie — as being sanctuary cities.” None of these are sanctuary cities. They lie through their teeth to intimidate local pols into assisting with their pogrom. It’s not gonna work here.

there is the beautiful theory that academics want to stand for better things & then there is the sordid reality that (especially German) academics continue *directly* collaborating with key perpetrators in #Georgia. Here my open letter to @ralfmichaels.bsky.social of the @maxplanck.de who is...

🇸🇪 Sweden to tighten control over Russia’s “shadow fleet” in the Baltic Sea. Starting July 1, Swedish Coast Guard & Maritime Administration will be able to access insurance data for all vessels transiting Swedish waters — not just those docking in ports.

One fear w/ combining OSINT like Palantir, AI decision making, w/ this administration has been combining everyone's public and private data to determine a tyrant's version of a social credit score: a grade based on how loyal you are to the admin and consequences for people below a certain grade.

Everyone knows this famous image, but fewer folks know that it’s is a still from a film. The man stands in front of tanks, the tanks repeatedly try to go around him, and he keeps putting himself in front of them. If the still image shows bravery, the film shows resolute, altruistic dedication.

No, there was also unprecedented corruption & the people who died

There are 2 previous historical cases of countries destroying their science and universities, crippling them for decades: Lysenkoism in the USSR and Nazi Germany. The Trump administration will be the 3rd. It's not just budgets but research, institutions, expertise, and training the next generation.

The lesson people infuriatingly never seem to master is that there is no creating a police state just for other people. If you create a police state with no due process for immigrants or accused criminals, then that's the system you've created for yourself.

Good morning to readers; Kyiv remains in Ukrainian hands. To understand a frog, you have to dissect it, says Oleksandr who claims to do the same with Russia. Russian language linguist trains future counter-propagandists and security services to resist Russia’s hybrid war.

What infuriates me so much about this new operation is that it is literally punishing people for following the rules and showing up to their court hearings. It is so toxic to the basic concept of following the rules. It is an operation designed by people who hate the concept of the rule of law.
