They just can't wait to call out military troops to suppress political dissent. They've been chomping at the bit to do this since they lost in 2020.

The statute that President Trump has invoked - 10 U.S.C. § 12406 - has an important proviso: “orders for these purposes shall be issued through the governors of the States" Great article @justsecurity.org explains that proviso in this February 2024 article:

Ethics Complaint Accuses Attorney General Pam Bondi of “Serious Professional Misconduct” Bondi threatened Justice Department lawyers with discipline or termination if they failed to “zealously pursue the President’s (#TACO'S) political objectives. #MOG8 www.democracynow.org/2025/6/6/hea...

This is so wrong. All to feed the ego of a mad tyrant who never had the balls to serve. This is not what we do in America. This is so fucking wrong. Makes me so sad. And so angry.👇

It's worth recalling, at this moment, how Trump spoke admiringly of China's Tiananmen Square crackdown. www.independent.co.uk/news/world/a...

I hope people appreciate that it’s a big deal for the LAPD to emphasize that peaceful protest should be protected. This attitude has not always been the case: in June 2020, I was arrested for walking in downtown LA with BLM while singing “This Little Light of Mine” half an hour past curfew.

they're doing this because the Insurrection Act sounds cool and edgy but they can't actually justify using the Insurrection Act. it's a silly action by an insecure administration desperately to seem manly and powerful. it should be criticized relentlessly, but it should also be laughed at.

I hope it leads to record voter turnout among people who care about liberal democracy, but I was counting on that in 2024, too.

Performative public lying is a hallmark of far right authoritarian parties

Just to recap, Trump has taken the extraordinary step of federalizing 2000 member of the California National Guard — over the objections of the state’s governor — in response to a protest that currently involves A FEW DOZEN PEOPLE AT A HOME DEPOT

Once again, Montreal is showing the rest of North America how to transform streets for people — 8 commercial streets in Montreal will be “pedestrianized” [turned into great people-places] this summer with 7.3km across 6 boroughs. Plus additional smaller sections. montreal.citynews.ca/2025/05/26/m...

Countries around the world need to start asking, how can the U.S. possibly host the World Cup in 2026? How would foreign visitors feel safe coming here?

Imagine working as a White House communications expert when, one morning, you look up to see a crew of unannounced Musk associates scaling the roof. The unit belongs to Starlink, the very company you had identified as posing security concerns. But there they are, installing internet service.

The money being spent on Trump’s ego parade could feed every single homeless veteran in America for more than four months.

Real support and response from First responders, volunteers and people donating has been so helpful to #Manitoba wildfires. #mbpoli #mbwildfires

There were a few hundred people protesting the ICE actions in California today. Most probably lived in the neighborhood that had been raided by armed, uniformed men who looked like soldiers and not police. The idea that the response to this 2,000 National Guard is fucking insane.

Real talk at NIH Vigil today: “What’s happening to patients in clinical trials now?” “They’re dying.” ——- Advanced therapeutics is saving lives, extending lives, giving people more precious time with loved ones. Patients cut off from life-saving care are now entering hospice.

Yesterday’s Supreme Court decision does not exempt DOGE from FOIA. But it does make clear that digging into DOGE’s destructive actions and operations won’t be easy thanks to court deference to the executive branch. americanoversight.org/american-ove...

This week Trump will deploy troops in California and roll Army tanks and artillery through the streets of the US Capital.

What's happening tonight is anything but law and order. Don't be deceived.

But people clearly voted for depravity.

For gods sake "waving flags and getting in fights with cops" would count Philly sports fans (and god knows how many college kids) as 'invaders'

He NEVER served nor did either of his parents nor any of his kids. Such wasteful spending for a service avoider

Helping people dodge losers. 🫡

You have to admit, it's a pretty brilliant strategy. Trump can't find enough "illegal" immigrants to deport so he makes legal ones illegal and then he can deport them. Who said the guy wasn't sharp?

Finsbury Circus Gardens by Realm, Studio Weave and Architecture00 is finally open. And nice to see seating that isn't hostile

This.

Sounds like Nazis: "Part of a broader wave of immigration enforcement actions nationwide. Advocacy groups and immigration attorneys have criticized these actions, labeling them a 'dragnet' operation targeting immigrants complying with the law." kfiam640.iheart.com/featured/la-...

Los Angeles school worker shares frustration over parents having to leave their children’s graduation ceremony because ICE raided an elementary school’s graduation today

Well this is quite something. Very few people - especially if they’ve had access to power - have this much spine. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Trump is turning legal immigrants into illegal ones by just declaring it 'undone' ... including people who fought with us and/or supported our troops at great personal danger. (GIFT ARTICLE) wapo.st/4kx6UtK

This may be as much about developing pretext for Insurrection Act as it is about trying to get the numbers up for massive deportation. This is Stephen Miller's war on America, and he is quite comfy with being wildly unpopular. He's been a dick his entire life. Will Trump care? Tis the question

I’ve probably mentioned this before, but I HATE the fact that Winnipeg has a surface parking lot in the middle of its most popular urban plaza. (Old Market Square)

Given the news—both what we're seeing in the streets and Stephen Miller saying the anti-ICE protesters are engaging in an "insurrection"—let me re-up this article from last year about why the Insurrection Act is even more dangerous than you might think. www.thebulwark.com/p/trump-insu...

Can’t shake the thought that having all this matériel in DC and provoking anti-ICE riots in LA, Chicago, and gods-know-where would make a handy little setup for declaring martial law. Meh, it’s probably nothing. 😬

I haven't read the article & maybe they say this: Many veterans are not opposing Trump because he threatens our particular interests but because he's a threat to the Constitution we swore an oath to defend, and a mortal threat to the imperfect character of the society our Constitution has produced

Yay Maine! www.pressherald.com?p=7463247&uu...

This is a massive point of national shame for all of us

Not the best environment to have jobless claims at an 8-month high — and Challenger layoffs running 80% above last year.

SCOTUS' shadow docket order granting DOGE unprecedented access to Americans' social security records *before the merits of the case are decided* is infuriating. Here is the order and I'll post some key portions from Justice Jackson's outstanding dissent below. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

Big news from Syria where Rukban camp has officially been closed. The camp had been established in 2014 to house those fleeing IS fighters and Assad bombardment. Assad had consistently blocked food and aid from getting in. Around 8,000 lived there at the time of Assad's fall.
