We are so forked

How does Trump get his man elected in Canada?
Take away the fear, which is what he did yesterday.
Please help spread the word

don't know the veracity of the email, but this is true of almost all academia. The thing is that we never know where genius and innovation will emerge so we give space to everyone and then one in a thousand makes a real contribution to human knowledge

I've stopped thinking of how to escape and only thinking how best to resist until death

I never expected I would die in a war, let alone a futile war against the a fascist USA, but looks like that is a real possibility now

Thanks, but that won't stop your military from coming in and murdering us because we refused to submit to attempts to annex us by economic force

True, he doesn't have a mandate. That is why he has called an election.
Then he will lead us against the fascist intent of the USA to take our country and murder any of us that resist

general strike for a month will bring them down, but Americans are unlikely to risk their own job to fight fascism
comment in response to

general strike. If people were willing to put their jobs at risk to bring down fascism , fascism would fall. If they do not, then they are as complicit on the first greenlander shot for protesting as Trump himself

This should be made into common knowledge across society.

As Angus said, we will disengage. We are a bigger customer of US goods and services than EU and China combined. We will buy elsewhere

wasn't that exactly my point?

You don't want to win, you want to hurt back.

I don't think you have read a word I said
comment in response to

That actually supports my point :)
Don't reason, don't attack, don't moralize. Go for the amygdala. Make them fear/hate something more than trans people and immigrants
really really signing off now :)

Rest assured, I am doing my bit to resist.
We re on the same side although we strongly disagree about the causes of this situation and how to fight back.
Signing off with respect. (but will read any further responses)

I believe I have explained my position. You have explained yours. I understand and respect that bit we disagree.
For me, bottom line: the progressives and democrats have lost. Their strategy was profoundly wrong.
Carry on doing the same at our own peril...if its not already too late
(signing off :)

You simply cannot convince with reason and appeals to basic humanity when a person's amygdala, (lizard brain) has been triggered. You need to feed a bigger stronger emotion into that same area of the brain with a target that suits us.
You reach them the same way Trump did
comment in response to
post
As noted elsewhere. You need to hit the amygdala with the same emotion but different target.
Make people fear billionaires and losing medicare more than immigrants and trans.
Insulting them has been and will be counter-productive
comment in response to
post
No, we've literally tried exactly the wrong things.
MAGA attack people who can't vote and people who represent less than 1% of the population.
The left attacked the identity of more than half the population
You don't need a psychology Ph.D to see where that goes

and how well has that worked so far?

and how well has that worked for you so far?
comment in response to

fair enough.
The issue isn't really what the emotion is, it is where in the brain it is coming from. We need to hit the same area with the same emotion
comment in response to

white fragility, incels, christian bigots, ignorant working class. Whoe exactly was not attacked often right at the core of their identity?
comment in response to

for which I apologize
comment in response to
post
This hope is dashed if we continue the insults. We need to go straight for the amygdala of the base (just as MAGA did). They need to fear greedy billionaires and losing medicare more than they fear trans people and immigrants. Psychologically, its a pretty basic algorithm
comment in response to
post
It's not an assumption, it's a vague hope that somehow the US constitution is robust enough that the main pillars of democracy will hold and that enough people can be swayed to make the result unassailable by fraud and lies.
comment in response to
post
absolutely right.
But just to me or was this a prevalent rhetoric that alienated millions?
comment in response to
post
yes, I used the word "dems" too casually. That said, the "choice few" were exceedingly vocal on social media for a few years and also substantial parts of main stream media.
comment in response to
post
I believe that is the case. The question is how we change the mind of about 10% of them. I don't think denigration and insult is the right strategy, likewise for young men and lower skilled workers
