Labour promises cuts to migration – but without a plan, care homes, hospitals and families will suffer. By The Bear

🔥 "The Reform company, sorry party, has already seen four of their new cohort announce that they can’t or won’t represent them in the council chamber, decisions that in some cases will cost local government tens of thousands of pounds."

Bosses of England hospitals that spend too much or treat too few will not get pay rise. Populist claptrap, not real analysis. NHS lacks capacity, staff. Discharging patients prematurely and subsequent readmission boosts treatment stats but is dangerous and achieves nothing. Fund the NHS.

Yesterday, the NIH R35 “Outstanding Investigator” grant to fund scientists in my lab studying antibiotic resistance was terminated for reasons not related to the content of the science, or any actions taken by me or members of my lab

Waves hand from the back 👋: "You can only call the Albanian returns deal a "success" if you ignore how it created a shift in routes, increased exploitation and embedded the cycle of human trafficking". Starmer should be scrapping the deal not expanding it. news.sky.com/story/sir-ke...

“The NHS has one of the lowest levels of capital intensity in the OECD, with just 2,300 hospital beds per million people- 2000 fewer than OECD average-and a backlog of £13.8 billion in maintenance, including £2.7 billion deemed ‘high risk’.” www.resolutionfoundation.org/app/uploads/...

Err… hello… @theguardian.com … a whole article on when to worry about forgetfulness and you forgot to include even one mention of (peri)menopausal brain fog, which more than half of all women suffer from? Help for that sort of brain fog is available, and women should know they can ask for it.

Ordinary, law-abiding, clever, compassionate women who are regularly insulted & intimidated by angry men (whether in woman-face/dress or not) don’t deserve employers and colleagues deludedly pandering and fawning to aggressive / entitled men via their communications 1/

Absolute cracker of an interview with @ForWomenScot Director Susan Smith. First item. Better late than never I suppose but how much better would this have been if the powers that be had listened to women from the get go. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

Britain wakes up every day, aims the gun at its feet and pulls the trigger. Just a prolonged exercise in meanspiritedness and self-harm.

Brexit wrecks and destroys the lives of British citizens - so why is it implausibly backed by govts? Why is the media silent? Why in UK public space are EU voices seemingly muzzled or ignored? Brits suffer. Who benefits? @teamlabouruk.bsky.social @grassrootsforeurope.org #wetoldyouso

Referrals to St Michael’s Hospice in Hereford are up 119% since 2017, but NHS funding covers just a fraction of costs. Hospices need fair, sustainable funding to keep up with rising demand. We look forward to working with government to secure their future. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Saw this post and chills ran down my spine. Let's not let history repeat itself.

Declaring emergencies to circumvent legal protections, in this case to justify logging national forests. "The memo has the effect of declaring nearly 60% of all national forestlands to be in a state of emergency, thereby lifting the usual requirements for public comment and environmental review..."

I asked the one high ranking policeman I saw on 5th Ave why there were so few police. He said “We did not expect anything like this. Don’t tell anyone but I’ve only got 44 officers out here — and it’s a great crowd, great event, no incidents.”

Pls don’t repost this or Trump will expode his depends!!

Another disastrous move. Beggars belief.

focusing particularly on “overdiagnosis” of people who rely on the welfare state because they live in a state of significant distress, we risk stigmatising some of the poorest and most vulnerable people in the UK… what really matters: people are suffering, and they visit their GPs to ask for help

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the UK can either raise domestic fees substantially, provide more direct funding to its universities, force closures on some unis to redistribute resources, or lift visa restrictions on foreign students. Or we can have a madcap series of uncoordinated cuts.

The suffering that will be unleashed on Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos is horrific. And that's not because they have "raped" America. It's because they're poor, they can't afford many US goods but they can become wealthier by exporting to rich countries.

Matt Hancock used his personal email account to help a 'VIP' supplier win a £25 million PPE Covid contract The company, which supplied the NHS with tens of millions of pounds worth of completely unusable PPE, later went bust, owing taxpayers millions bylinetimes.com/2025/04/03/m...

Today UK authors are protesting against Meta for stealing our work to train their AI model. Authors earn an average of £7000 per year, we are not rich, and yet a trillion dollar company decided it didn’t want to license our work fairly as it was “too expensive” Theft is not a valid alternative.

Analysis from our response to Treasury’s Spending Review estimates if adult social care funding were to keep pace with projected demand and access to care packages was expanded by 10%, additional £7.6bn would be needed by 2028/29, an annual increase of 4.8% from 2021/22.
