I don't think the Afghan war was framed in the same way. There's a reason why the Russians say they're fighting Nazis in Ukraine, they're selling this war to the Russian people as The Great Patriotic War 2.0

How is it retaliation when they've been doing it every night for years?

The whole Russian national psyche is built on the story of the 'great patriotic war' and victory despite crushing levels of casualties. My fear is that the Russian people think the casualty rate in Ukraine is somehow 'normal'.

You don't have to be a billionaire to get a top job in the US government, but it sure helps.

Medvedev mentions nuclear war three times a week. Nobody is listening.

Hard to see them not making gains. Also hard to see the gains being worth the losses.

The cult of contrarianism - the refusal to believe any official narrative no matter how plausible - is a modern sickness fueled by social media.

Social media will fill any information vacuum with lies and nonsense. Sad that it was necessary, but it was necessary.

It's right that they should get ahead of any misinformation given what happened after Southport.

I won't share it but from the clip I've seen it looks like a deliberate act. Thoughts with all those affected.

Putin doesn't care if he's happy or not

What's clear is that Trumps has emboldened Putin and made things worse.

If you haven't yet come to the conclusion that he's a bit thick then I don't know what to tell you.

I think Ukraine and Europe are both waiting for it to finally dawn on Trump that Putin is the warmonger and obstacle to peace. Until that happens they're going along with the charade.

I thought they'd performed poorly.

Went to a shopping centre earlier, there was a US pickup parked in the area reserved for coaches. Couldn't believe how big it was.

He doesn't really care, they're just sound bites to secure himself the Nobel peace prize which he's obsessed with winning cos Obama got one.

Ah, the Americans who fought a 10 year war in Vietnam because they chose the wrong kind of independence.
