Usually arg 2 is just as stupid as arg 1 so you can shoot it down just as easily, but if you don't hold them accountable for the shift they'll just move right on to arg 3.
But if you call them on jumping from arg to arg they'll just say you're being pedantic, get mad and start calling you names
