‘AI‑Powered’ feels like the new ‘Free Wi‑Fi’.

I have this 16 hour on-demand SEO course. You can have it for free. I am sending out 1,000 coupons in the coreupdates.com newsletter in 1 hour. Have a nice week.

There was a SpaceX explosion within the past hour or two. There’s news all over social media. And Perplexity got the information right. Meanwhile, Google AI Overviews makes up info (Tuesday?) (Super Booster?) and pulls in a video from 3 months ago.

The current state of SEO.

Spent the weekend using AI to plan a family holiday. Ended up with phantom direct flights, a kids club that didn’t exist, and points redeemable on a website that also didn’t exist. Happy travels!

I preferred the discussions on subdomains versus subfolders.

You can get good SEO results and not care about embeddings. It’s an interesting lens to see your content through, but it’s not some magic bullet future of SEO thing. The industry likes talking about it so much because it makes us seem very clever and technical.

Would love to get someone who is working in machine learning/deep learning, or ideally, working on building LLMs to talk on the Search with Candour podcast with @jlwchambers.bsky.social. Let's give the actual experts the mic for a bit! 🎙️ If you know anyone, please tag them! ⤵️

All right, contestants, solve the puzzle.

Me: “best pet insurance” Google AI Mode: try “Figo”! The best gelato in Little Italy.

This is neat. LinkedIn has started displaying Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) meta data as a way to verify the origin and history of digital content, particularly AI-generated images and videos. 👀

Helpful content doesn’t need to be the ‘Ultimate Guide’.

What's everyone using for split testing CRO changes? Super done with our current software.

Thanks to everyone who messaged me.

👀 "Traditional" SEO still matters for AI Search engines: The higher the website is in top 10, the higher chances of inclusion in AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity. Tomek Rudzki analyzed 25,000 real user queries across AI search platforms, and found that ....

Unreal 2nd day on the trail.

Happy 99th birthday to the man who gave voice to the wild. 🎉 Sir David Attenborough, thank you for a lifetime dedicated to the natural world, and for sharing its story with wisdom, wonder, and grace. You've inspired generations to fall in love with nature.

When I see people comparing Google searches to ChatGPT searches.

The environmental cost of inference by hammering LLMs with thousands of terms to try and gauge brand visibility maddenly outweighs the value gleaned from it in my opinion. There is a whole industry spinning up to do this right now and it makes me a bit sad.

‘Code Red’

Google let the Ads team run core search; made everything to max out ad profits in detriment of organic, including allegedly degrading results. Now, they're reaping the results

Just realised it’s been five years since I unexpectedly achieved one of my career highlights.
